There are several other Jumble blogs, but the ones I checked all started off by listing the answers. In this blog, answers can be either hinted at or masked by burying them in comments. No overt spoilers!
Were Earthers in like a Nnylf? It was time for action. The hive mind was of the progressive faction. Tis ants announced, with a voice like a piano, That it was the Earther's time to know!
The Lutel squid, from its funnel mouth, Said bribe was accepted, throw them out! The Hecrey jewel, dental crystals like chimes, Opposed to change, voted "not this time."
The Coypil bird, undecided till the end, Sided with the majority, to not offend. One in favor, three against the Earther. The decision was set, until centuries future.
Since Dan had been taken without permission, He'd been intended a slave, like a helpless kitten. But Gorn'Da, impressed, on Earth set him free. "Next time I'll do better, or Danial Webster's not me!"
So so confusing! Danial or Daniel? (And no, I guess I didn't know, though I certainly should have, since I grew up right there "in the border country, where Massachusetts joins Vermont and New Hampshire.") Nnylf? Lutel squid? Hecrey jewel? Coypil bird? Gorn'Da? Are these also words to unscramble? Sorry, I'm new here...
So far I've only unscrambled Nnylf and as I've said before, as long as the final solve is a familiar phrase, I'm on it! Very easy J today and I'm purring like a kitten. I had no time to solve yesterday so did it first today and got another fast solve. I'm an even tempered person myself so that wasn't hard. My company's still here so I'll be busy all day.
So occlusion it is. For now... (So, Owen, please come back and explain -- was that really Daniel Webster? That means Earth has already been occluded from the Sophont League for nearly 200 years. We're galactic pariahs!!)
Well, thank goodness I do occasionally remember the movies from long ago--helped a lot to know the actor's name this morning. I got the first three clues easily, only 4 gave me a bit of a challenge. But in the end it worked out like a . . . star?
Good day, all! Easy-Peasy today, back to biz-as-usual. Today's final answer was a favorite saying of my mother. I think she was a super fan of ol' Errol. He was certainly a classic star. I always enjoy his early films, with Korngold's music. When he beefed up and put on weight, he lost some of that early athletic charm.
Fiddleplayer et alia: This was the conclusion of a story started back on Aug. 9. Most of the names are the scrambled letters on the day they were introduced, tho a few (sehceel for leeches and one today) are just spelled backwards to sound like alien nouns. Dan'l vs. Daniel I won't argue, but putting Danial instead of Daniel was pure carelessness on my part, so I'm sorry for that. :rueful: A mistake I wouldn't have made if I'd stuck with Dan'l. :/rueful:
Putting them all together I'm sure I'll do, but for the N3F, National Fantasy Fan Federation , a science fiction society I first joined about 30 years ago. I'll give you all a link when it gets pubbed online. Possibly with revisions, since these are always essentially just first drafts due to the short time I have to write them in.
The words came easily. On the sol. I guessed correctly on the first word. I needed hints for the second word. There was only one vowel left for the five letter third word, but it came to me. I groaned.

Danial Webster, in case you've forgotten or didn't know.
ReplyDeleteIn your referenced story (with the "Daniel" spelling in its title), he's often just called "Dan'l."

But just to belabor the obvious, Dan'l was Webster and this paralleled"The Devil and Daniel Webster" . They made a movie. And there was a book .
ReplyDeleteNot to speak of Joe Hardy's deal in "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant"(Damn Yankees) .
