  1. The Society for Creative Anachronisms was preparing for their Olympics!
Matches and games to keep all entertained -- nothing boring or soporific!
Horses were rare, so bikes with care were costumed as fiery steeds
For a jousting match that all could catch, then sing of the glorious deeds!

Looking ahead there was more to be said of this pre-Renaissance fair.
Booths were selling love potions for smelling, or lutes for playing an air!
Shish-kabobs were a hit, roasted there on a spit, fat dripping off of the beast.
Morris dance snappy, love ballads sappy, the site was a sensory feast!

All were arrayed for the costume parade, with tunics and liveried tabards!
Fabrics so porous trooped there before us, and knights with swords in scabbards!
Saved for the last was the half-furlong dash, that could take almost an hour.
Just a hundred-plus yards doesn't seem very hard -- until done in full iron armor!

    1. Move over, Willie Schwenk, the race is on!
Very clever indeed, Master Owen - from the internal rhymes to the period references! Your spirit, may I say it, is quite Dashing!
      Bravo! Or, more appropriately, Huzzah!

    2. OMK, I have no idea who Willie Schwenk is. Google didn't help, and my curiosity is killing me. (Even though I'm not a cat!)

  2. Another good one, Owen. I've been to the Ren-Fairs, have friends in the SCA, and you've captured the essence. Got 1 & 4 pretty easily, had to write out many permutations of 2 & 3 before answers became apparent. Solution was pretty obvious.

  3. Every morning I look ahead to the time I can do the Jumble and come to this blog to see what you've come up with, Owen. And every morning I marvel.

Just where does he get these great ideas, I wonder. Working with words must be a snap for him; he's so prolific. He dashes off multiple poems for jumble and crossword blogs every single day.

Kudos to the master of quotidian poesy.

  4. You were my saving grace this morning, Owen. I had trouble with the crossword, the Sudoku, and even the Kenken, which it is almost impossible not to get. And then I had trouble with the Jumble too! So I came here, and your poem was so engaging I forgot to even look for clues and just enjoyed reading it--a delight! Many thanks! Then I re-read it and found my missing #3 item and was able to dash off the solution to the Jumble. Just what I needed after my tough morning--thanks again for the help.

  5. For me this was a snap I'm happy to say but I'm sorry it was not so for you, Misty. Some days are just like that; I've had them, too.
Owen, you must be an avid reader of medieval jousting and all things knightly and I agree with the others. I especially like Sandyanon's description "quotidian poesy"; how appropriate.

  6. Misty ~
Sorry you had a tough go of it today. We missed you over on the Corner. I hope the "tough"-ness was nothing more than these pzls. They are, after all, mere amusements, nicht wahr?

  7. How kind of you to care, Ol'Man Keith and Lucina. I cheered up considerably as this sunny day progressed and will hope for a better morning tomorrow.

  9. It was a long day but I did dashoff the J earlier. This was the fastest yet . But...

I could not get the riddle yesterday and I fear I've misplaced my newspaper. I finally got the four words . I may have an excuse .

I got careless with my meds . So I ran out of my BP pills. I finally got a couple from a friendly pharmacist but I was a little out of it .methinks it affected my solving ability

I bounced back today . J < 1 minute and what apparently was a difficult Thursday xword .I think some of the"difficult" clues like AURIC were familiar.

Re. Time . OMK, if one posits some kind of Higher Power as I (try to) do why limit it within our defined dimensions . So I'm saying IT is always in the NOW .

To try to absorb this one might have to get into a meditation state . It comes and goes.

The reverse of course is very common: known among other names as "Foxhole Prayer". If you do this for me I'll ....(Do a good deed?)
