  1. Something was amiss, with this bogus crew!
Wasting no more time, back to the capitol he flew!
On the ride, he recollected things not up to snuff.
His hands been tied with rope, not a metal handcuff.

What governmental entity gave orders from a lounger?
He'd been played as a silly goose, to be left to flounder!
The headquarters of the real feds was his destination.
Was Travis miffed? That would be a mild designation!

The Director heard his story, assured him he was clear.
Slim and his crew had made of this subterfuge a career!
Travis had caught on too early, now could make it stop.
As a triple-agent, under surveillance make the drop.

Travis, thus, was sent to meet one of the ersatz agents.
In a nylon pouch, a thumb-drive with a virus latent.
Slim's gang wasn't really Russian, just sold to Wikileaks
Whatever they could cadge. Now there'd be no repeats!

(The End of the story started Sept. 22nd.)

  2. So I'm not sure that Travis has actually beaten the professionals -- professional criminals, that is. Were it not for deciding to visit "headquarters", he'd never have known. But then he was uneasy enough to make that visit. Well, game to Travis, I guess.

The jumble was not a problem. Clues fairly obvious, and the given letters fell right into place in the solution.

But Travis is gone! Who can take his place?

  3. P.S. I really admire Owen's ability to pull together a coherent multi-day narrative from collections of unconnected words. And then to be able to do it all in poetry! Wow and wow.

  4. Was Travis's pouch made of rayon by any chance? I'm slowly getting into his adventure too, as you can see. Thanks, Owen, for sharing him with us and for that fun sprinkling of clue answers.

The Jumble was a speed run for me this morning, and I managed it right on time. Great fun!

  5. I miss Ol'Man Keith checking in on our Jumble blog. Hope all is still okay with his house.

  6. I was gone nearly all day today and just had a chance to work on the Jumble during commercials. It was lightning fast except for the final solve. But some additional thinking and Owen's poem led the way and I was off to a ride at galloping speed.
