The toy store was a gloomy place, once the lights were out. A display of plushy dolls lined up like cruel soldiers on a shelf. If any quad-copters had been active, with radar eyes turned on, They would have seen the thief who broke in before the dawn.
The burgler was working on a hunch of treasure to be found. All the tills were empty, but expensive playthings did abound. He started with electronics, stuffing tablets in his duffle bag. But when he felt a tapping, a guilty conscience made him sag.
He turned to see -- a plushy shark, and a furry striped tiger. "Did you intend to buy those things?" the shark grinned wider. "You know what we toys do at night, both the small and large?" The police came after dawn, but there was no one left to charge.
What a lovely, creepy poem! I could almost see the action play out in the shadowy surroundings. I found all the words, some cleverly disguised as usual.
The jumble seemed amazingly simple; do they not get harder as the week goes on? The pun was obvious, I thought, but fun.
Woohoo! Woohoo! I finally got my first Jumble without any problems since coming back from my trip. Woohoo! All four words fell right into place, and I figured the middle solution word would be a conjunction--that made the rest easy to detect.
So, was able to enjoy your poem without having to worry about finding clues, Owen. I too thought it was delightful creepy and fun to read--many thanks.
David L. Hoyt responded -- Yes, the puzzles in general do get tougher throughout the week with Monday usually being the easiest and Friday usually being the toughest weekday puzzle. The larger Sunday Jumble puzzle is the toughest puzzle of the week.
Well, I guess it depends on the words and phrases you're familiar with. This Friday didn't seem difficult to me -- or to Misty. Wonder how it others will see it.
I got the first two words, #3 I just needed to put the letters down . But... #4 went harder. The only word I could come up with was BONKER. Oops? REKNOB wasn't working either . Then I had all the letters but no clue to the riddle
So... I went to CC-ville. Unlike the regulars I found it very tough but very satisfying to solve .
When I got back here, the first word popped so the second followed . I extracted the last five letters and five minutes later I had it .
Sandy, I read the bio of that author*. $5K Lucas offered for the Star Wars backstory??? What a cheapskate!! But it did satisfy my curiousty on one point. And that is that Lucas and Co. just dashed off the original and played it for a one time farce .
But CGI was so new. It caught on. Perhaps because the viewing audience were were all on dope (1975) .

Sorry, but I don't get how the Wikipedia article on Foster shows that Lucas played Star Wars for a farce. Confused. But it does come across that you didn't like it. A chacun son goût!
I usually don't notice a progression of difficulty, except the other Sun. one w/6 6-letter words is almost always more of a stumper. Yesterday and today seemed easier to me than some earlier in the week. Today I had to write out the last 2, but got them without covering the page with trials. The solution, however, was far from obvious - I took a hint for the 1st letters of the 1st and last words. And the former me (current me +1/3) used to have to shop in those stores.
FLN: Owen, if you haven't, I recommend trying "Nor Crystal Tears". For a human being, I thought that ADF did a heck of a job portraying an alien perspective.
Perspectives can and do differ in this world -- I never saw the Star Wars trilogy as intended to be comedies, though there were certainly comedic elements. Rather I saw them more as space fantasy/melodrama.
When I was a child, some reruns of the old Flash Gordon films from the 30's were on early tv. A little like that -- much better done and with superior special effects, but melodramatic in the same way.
I enjoyed Star Wars, without being fanatically devoted.

Yes, I did indeed see Star Wars as a joke. And, as I perceived it, I thought the cast played it that way.
And, obviously, comedy is at the heart of it. I didn't pay attention to the the next two but when #4 came out I watched it carefully.
It was much different . It was very allegorical and some actual acting took place, ironically by the young fellow playing Ani .
But, I do agree with you that for sheer enjoyment the entire franchise succeeded very well .
