|| || adopt, goose, sludge, strong, stood to reason.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

  1. Pollution is a bane to our modern world.
In the ocean gyres, plastic is whorled.
Trash on land, our cities filled with litter.
In our waters, chemicals fill the river.

We let clubs and companies adopt a highway,
To keep in clean, and to stop litter fly-away.
The sludge in oceans takes a stronger effort.
To clean oily geese takes a government endeavor.

Now climate change makes it more pressing
To clean up our air -- it's nature we're stressing.
So many reasons to take a firm stand
And from the polluters, take back our land!

  2. Whew! Started doing the Jumble before you posted your poem -- just before. After four easy clues, it was quite a struggle to get the solution. I kept trying words that seemed reasonable, but just led me to dead ends. Finally, finally got the idea -- totally different from the "line" I'd been pursuing.

So then I saw your poem was there and read it. Very cleverly disguised jumble words! Great theme for the poem, except that I would end it, "And stop polluting, to save our land" because we all have to take responsibility, don't we?
Well, that sounded a lot like preaching, didn't it. Sorry.

    1. Not preaching any more than I did! I see in the paper this morning that that the EU Parliament has banned single-use plastics, so the timing on this one was provident!

  3. I used a few hints to solve. I even needed help with the two letter word.

  4. It just came to me.
(I mean, with those letters, the solution just naturally ....)

  5. Well got the first item, thanks to Owen's poem, and had the other three. But I'm having trouble getting the resolve this morning. Any (hopefully pretty obvious) hints would be appreciated.

  6. I've stood in a short line to buy tickets for something, but I don't think it's reasonable to camp out the night before a big event. Not worth it to me.

  7. Thank you, Sandyanon. I actually finally looked the answer up online, but really appreciate the extremely helpful hint that you sent me. I should have waited and read your post first before deciding to cheat. Would have been a very satisfying experience. Still, thank you so much for confirming the solution!

  8. I'm with Misty. Lots of O's in the solution. Lots of standing in the picture.

I've got all the letters . I don't see anything in the poems.

Maybe tomorrow . I got the xword with no problem

    1. How many ways have you "stood to," when it was a matter requiring rationality?

  9. Wow, I had worked originally, before hints, with STOOD. Maybe I should put the letters into my phone instead of the limited scratch space the newspaper provides .

I've got to go back to my henscratching and see how I missed it.

Nor how I missed Sandy's most excellent hint. Both of you did a good job"hinting" without giving it away .
