The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are the lifeblood of a blog!
Read the comments, and reply to them if you are so moved!
The streets were dusty, the sky was cloudy, Green mountains were far away. The man in the poncho looked poor and rowdy, Mean, yet in a manly way.
He came to town a stranger, he was a stranger still, Except to Mistress Jane. She of the leadened heart, who ran the town's gin mill. (You can see it still remains.)
Neither was cuddly, yet they seemed well matched -- Both had the same surname. Had he sought a run-away wife, was he still attached? Or was she a daughter to reclaim?
Had the townsfolk a mystery? Don't you say they do! And suspense was mounting. The train billowed in, and the pair had tickets off to Far green mountains.
The town never knew that their wealthy father had died, And left them each a stash, To try to atone for his many sins, and for his evil side. The siblings were rolling in cash!
With Misty as bellwether, are more hints still needed? For example, the words today start with mscpy?
The "scores" are calculated by the online versions of the Jumble, supposedly based on the time it takes to solve the puzzle. I don't think they work, tho. I've gotten respectful scores even when I went away for an hour before finishing.
Today's J was exceedingly easy. I instantly solved the main answer before unscrambling the words then proceeded to unscramble them in record time, for me! Interestingly all but the last one have only one vowel which makes it easy to bunch the consonants together to form blends or digraphs and usually y is an ending letter. All of that makes for an easy solve. Wonderful story in your poem, Owen. Brilliant as always!

Interesting comment about the few vowels in the Jumble words, Lucina. You'd think that might make a more difficult solve, but this morning it actually made it easier. And I thought the cartoon solution was really cute.
As with Lucina and Misty, I had no problems with the Jumble. The clues words came easily, and then the solution popped right out.
I found the poem interesting; it raises more questions than it answers, doesn't it? Why were the two so poor before their inheritance? Had their father cast them off and then relented in his will? How had the stranger survived? Had Jane's heart hardened because of her father's treatment? How did her brother know where to find her?
Oh well, the mystery remains, but I hope the money made them happy.

I too solved quickly . About 1 pm . I'm always interested in how Owen can interweave the J words.
