|| || blunt, fence, canopy, dollar, reflect badly.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

  1. State Fair time was quite a party,
    Midway, rides, and junk-food hearty!
    Sidewalk cafés with canopied fronts
    Serve appetizer canapés for brunch!

    Funnel cakes with powdered sugar,
Hot dog, corn dog, slider burger!
    Fenced-in rides with blunted pickets,
Carousel, bumper cars -- dollar a ticket!

    Roller coasters, with terror sections,
    Mirror Mazes with distorted reflections
House of Horrors scare kids badly,
Tunnel of Love ❤💛💜, for kissing madly!

  2. None of today's clue words were a challenge. The solution seemed to offer a bit of a hassle, but only because of the length of the words. Once tackled, they collapsed easily.
The main event, as always, is the delightful poem. The nearness of "canopied" to "canapés" offers a tiny frisson of delight & the three hearts are a visual bonus. 💝
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! 🌲Tomorrow I must review my gift list and make sure I have the whole family covered.
How about YOU? Is YOUR shopping done?🎁

  3. The image of the solution appeared to me instantly after reading the clue! Then unscrambling was quick and easy. This was my fastest solve yet. I couldn't wait to see how Owen would create with those words and you surprised me again, Owen! Brilliant!
OMK: My shopping and wrapping has been done for over a week. I have several gifts each for my four grandchildren as well as my daughter and SIL. It's a mountain under that tiny tree. Now I'm focused on house cleaning.

  4. Owen, I love those hearts! They are well placed.

  5. Well, thanks to Owen's poem, I got item #3, which had given me a bit of trouble. But I still haven't gotten the solution. Any more hints?

  6. I've never been to a state fair, but used to go to the L.A. County fair many years ago, and your very evocative poem brings it all back to me, Owen. Never went on the big roller coaster though; every section of it looked terror filled to me. But funnel cakes, ah, funnel cakes!

The jumble was not very difficult, although the third clue gave me pause for awhile. The solution seemed obvious, although to me it was incomplete. I've always heard it as a longer phrase, putting the focus explicitly on them . After reflecting, though, I could understand those two words used alone.

  7. Misty, think about what a mirror does. Also look at the second line of Owen's last stanza for a hint.

  8. And of course, the five letter solution word is not image since there's no G anywhere. I looked (and looked) . I then went another direction with DETRACT but the remaining letters got me bupkis.

Also, I'd got an early start and wrote the four J's down. After the xword I went to solve the riddle but had forgot the paper I'd written them on .

I have a case of jumbleer blessings*. eg I completely forget any Jumble I've unscambled if I haven't written it down.

Anyway, upon finally reflecting on words similar to IMAGE and why I'm doing so poorly, I got it .

Yes I've kissed in the tunnel of love and the LindyLoop . I was 18 and she was 21 and we were at Paragon Park in the summer of '63 .

  9. Misty ~
The solution has a past tense verb and an adverb.
Think about what a mirror must have done to behave poorly.

  10. Well, I couldn't wait and looked it up. Ol'Man Keith, your cue is pretty good, and might have helped me get it. Sorry I was so slow on this one this morning.
