There are several other Jumble blogs, but the ones I checked all started off by listing the answers. In this blog, answers can be either hinted at or masked by burying them in comments. No overt spoilers!
The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are the lifeblood of a blog!
Read the comments, and reply to them if you are so moved!
Being a tomcat seems a distasteful state, A feral with no home, no human to wait. Oh, it's fine when it's sunny, dry and warm, Not so when it's windy, and snowdrifts form.
A tomcat can gloat of his license to play, Torrid affairs with a new mom-cat each day! He's king of the cat-hill, his claim of ground, He controls his land, and lesser cats around!
He's not like domestics, neutered and indoors. A tomcat's made for freedom, not for floors! He's a hunter, a fighter, the cock of the walk! But it would be nice to have a cleaned litter box.
I hope these three fine stanzas mean you are feeling better. After reading your last post yesterday, I didn't expect to see such a solid effort--so may we take this as a sign of returning health? Fingers crossed! ~ OMK
So glad to see the poem. I was really worried for you, and am relieved that you're feeling well enough to produce a poem. And such a great one -- I especially love the way you start out his life so sadly, build up his advantages, then end with that twist.
The jumble clues were evident except for the fourth where I hit a snag for some dumb reason. Went to the solution, where the first word seemed obvious, but not the second. So I relied on your poem for help and there it was immediately! Funny solution, which in a weird way reminded me of today's CW theme.
Owen, I too am so relieved that you're feeling a bit better, and will hope that the recovery continues. Your cat poem above is a total delight, and I had exactly the same experience with today's Jumble as Sandyanon. I too got stuck on the fourth Jumble word and had to come to your poem to get help, even though I had already gotten the first word of the solution. And Voila! there it was! Thank you so much! I'm so grateful that we have this Jumble page with Owen's and everyone's help!
I too did 1,2,3 . 4 was a ???. So I used Sandy's strategy: figure out the riddle and eliminate all but the three letters(O,T,C) not in the two words.
Getting the first made the second obvious to me . But I still had ti maneuver* the letters around . Finally the first three letters appeared .
I couldn't wait to see what Owen would do with #4 and #2 and #3 . One of Betsy's endeavors was breeding cats. Whew or is it PHEW.
I should write a short story on the whole nightmare (or adventure). Owen, imagine two Toms and a bunch of horny females then the kittens not to speak of three years old Phill. What a poem.
Wilbur, I hope this doesn't seem silly to anyone, but:
I pronounce words with potentially complex spelling quite correctly aloud, but in my mind the letters are all sounded out. Not on purpose, really, but just because that's how my mind works. So mentally, maneuver is always "maneeyuver" -- it does reinforce the spelling, too.

Feeling better -- knock wood. Puzzles and poetry may be good therapy.
ReplyDeleteFor you it must be! Bravo!
DeleteDoesn't today's jumble remind us of David Bowie?
ReplyDelete"🎶... to Major Tom."

Ditto. Spaghetti and champagne are 'spag-hety and cam-'pag-ne.
