Technology has changed the ways we think and do.
Water travel once took but a birch-bark canoe.
Now, a ship weighs anchor, a city 'tween its decks,
With classy clubs and restaurants, e'en water parks complex!
Once to win at business took a tiger who was shrewd.
Carnegie or Morgan, with carnivorous attitude.
This era has its Green concerns, like changing climate,
Saving the environment for future folks to find it!
There was a time when novelists, and poets much like me
Struggled with a cursive hand, thinking running free.
Today we sit at Windows, word smithing as a hobby.
Magnificent our gains -- what we've lost can make me sobby!
Am teaching my class in a few hours, so had to check in early. Was delighted that I got all four Jumble answers without any problems, and your delightful poem confirmed them all, Owen--thanks for that. Then what to do to get the solution? Well, it actually came pretty quickly, given the theme of the cartoon, and so I got the whole thing without any cheating or extra help. Many thanks, Owen, and I bet everyone has as much fun with this as I did.
Somebody -- and I keep thinking it was Asimov -- once said something like: unfortunately the only cure for the evils of technology is more technology. Does that ring a bell?
Anyway, I enjoyed the poem a lot; it led me to think about the future as well as the present.
The jumble was not difficult. Once the letters were there, the solution came easily. I do love puns!

Technology has truly changed our lives & the world in which we live them. Especially in the century before us and in the decades of our time. How innocently we entered into this new realm, celebrating the many ways our innovations made us the compleat anglers of our waters, master tillers of our fields, and soarers of our skies!
And now we find the other edge of this sword threatening this beautiful planet. Owen's poem reminds us of the personal loss of intimate skills. It doesn't take much imagination to jump from handwriting to larger concerns. Every day we find signs of the damage we have wrought, from vast changes in global weather to nearby mudslides to the flooding in my own backyard. On various fronts we see futile efforts to sweep back the tech tide: international treaties fall apart while modern Luddites smash self-driving cars.
We have become very good at lamenting our fate. Not so good at finding our way out of this mess. The bell is tolling, and the one skill in which the human race is truly rising to new heights, exemplified by our many daily political distractions, is Procrastination.

First I have say that yesterday I finished unscrambling the words, had to leave, then forgot to go back and finish the solve. Sigh.
Today it all popped off easily, both the descrambling and the solve. The cute cartoon contributed good information and Owen, you affirmed my solution. Good poem!
