The legislative session was about to begin
ReplyDeleteThe chambers were filled with the usual din.
In House and Senate the lawmakers were gathered
To pass bills and by-laws on subjects that mattered.
On each desk was a tulip, a group's affectation,
Demanding a ban on Public Displays of Affection.
It had not a chance. The agenda's cut and dried,
With routine matters introduced from each side.
In the Senate, the gavel banged out for order.
Members took their seats, with nods to reporters.
In the House, the gavel banged out for attention.
The circus grew quiet for the start of the session.
Timely poem. I love the description of the House as a circus. Surely it applies to the Senate as well.
ReplyDeleteThe jumble wasn't difficult, though the second clue gave me a few moments' pause. Once the letters were there, the solution seemed obvious. Somehow, though, it didn't seem as funny as usual.
I was slow on #3 and #4. Then I read the comics* . When I came back everything became clear .

My Tampa Bay Times changed all the comics. I guess they decided that my old fogie readership doesn't matter and decided to aim for the <12 crowd .
I'm down to 8 out of 20+ that are readable. They took Lio away which shows they just don't get it
Sandy, the reason it might not seem funny is that it's in the present instead of the past tense. That bugged me, anyway,

DeleteOn some days the final solve just jumps out immediately. Today was one of those, even before looking at the scrambled words. Those didn't take long, either, except the last one. All those D's seemed impossible to use but then I realized at least two of them were needed in a circle. It all came together.
ReplyDeleteOwen, how you managed to include those diverse words in your poem is a mystery to me. But then, you are a master at it!
I forgot to say I loved your second poem in the Crossword Corner this morning, Owen. I too am amazed how you come up with these inventive and fitting poems every single morning. Wish there was an award we could give you!
ReplyDeleteI had trouble with both # 2 and #3 on the Jumble this morning, though I now feel silly that I didn't get #3 right away. But the solution popped up instantly, and like all Jumble answers, was clever and funny.

The female character starts everything off in the present tense. But then that stupid *#¥! guy regressed to the past.
