|| | flirt, decay, urchin, oppose, done "four".

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

  1. I'm an early bird today. Had a little trouble with the fourth clue, but once that was solved and I had all eight letters, the solution was pretty obvious.

    Looking forward to the poem.

  2. This is confusing! It says I made a comment but it's not on the Jumble site.

  3. No Owen yet. Maybe taking another well-deserved night off.
I guess today's solution is an answer to the "Fab" designation.

  4. No poem today. Instead a collection of very cryptic hints in random order.

A child who lives and rhymes in the ocean
Who would consider a dentist a very bad notion.
An opinion posed as a negative position.
A coquette is near a squirt with an ƒ introduction.
    A band's breakup isn't a foregone conclusion
Until they've been dunned for a collection.

  5. Owen, last night you posted that you were testing a different system for comments. Curious as to whether that had anything to do with my confusion early this morning. Things seem back to the old way now??

  6. BTW, I like your hints, especially the last one.

  7. Had trouble with the third item in the clues, and I'm afraid Owen's offer this morning was a bit too difficult for me. So I had to look this one up. Now, of course, I feel silly for not having gotten it. Guess I've never been all that into the Beatles but should have remembered their number in any case. Will hope for a better Jumble day tomorrow--but have a good day today, everybody!

  8. Some of those were just too far gone. Here's a better rendition.

Would an immature ocean echinoderm be an urchin urchin?
Might a dentist's vanity license plate be DR.DK?
Would a meme picture for a negative op-ed use an op-pose?
Would an archaic coquette try to ƒlirt with a squirt?
If they aren't four-gone, might they still be done for?

Sandy: change in posting method was probably the cause of your confusion. Blogspot offers 3 methods -- new page (which CC uses) embed (what I was using here, which allowed comments to be out of order if they were tagged to previous comments, and occasionally may have led me to miss those posts), and pop-up, the method I've switched to and am still evaluating. So far, I'm pleased with it. posts can't be tagged onto each other, but new posts are always added to the bottom, not shuffled in between previous posts.

    1. Does popup mean that replies won't immediately follow the post they're replying to? I really like being able to attach a reply to the original post; it makes communication clearer, I think. My two cents.

  9. Yep, 'fraid so. CC seems to have survived well enough with that limitation. And the alternative is that if it gets attached to the earlier post with anything else after it, there's a high chance no one else (including me) will ever see that it's there!

  10. Oh well. Thanks for the reply.
