Jan. 6, 2019 Sunday

|| sooty, irony, should, naught, (a) "shooting" star.  || stigma, gossip, garish, future, mullet, worthy, get with the program.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Jack got his start as a chimney sweep,
Covered in soot, week after week.
He was in a stage show of Mary Poppins,
And his stellar performance kept it hoppin'!

A T.V. crew came out for an ironic shoot,
So Jack conspired with the rest of the troupe.
Not for naught should the cameras scan 'em --
At the chimney base they positioned a cannon!

At the critical scene, the gun spit Jack
As high in the air as a steeple-jack!
He pulled his rip-cord a fore he fell too far --
Thus he became a real "chuting" star!

Gossip circulated the Jack had a future,
Maybe even a lead in a movie feature!
He did have a stigma from his stage show,
He had let his hair into a mullet grow.

The casting director thought it looked garish.
The leading lady said it made him look bear-ish!
But his acting was more than worthy enough,
So the producer said keep it -- they don't like it? Tough!

In time, a sci-fi series was in the making!
But Jack's hirsute style sent heads shaking.
The director said, "Jack, you're an alien Frogum.
Frogs don't have hair, so get bald with the program!"

Feeling much better tonight!

The prescience of the Blog: one of today's words was in yesterday's poem!

The pun in the first poem I've used in a Masonic cartoon (years ago) about the women's auxiliary known as the Eastern Star.

Sorry, but neither cartoon was in color today. I tried hand-coloring one, but it didn't work well.

I don't know how you're feeling today, Owen, but your creative ability is very healthy. I love the way you integrated the two jumbles into one story. As for the jumbles, j4 was pretty simple, with the solution obvious even without the clues. J6 was a bit more difficult, and I had to think about clue 3 for awhile. Then with all the letters and knowing what some of the words must be, I still had to think about it; these things seem so obvious once you see them, don't they!

Hey, Owen, maybe in the future you could work in a poem about Job and his daughters. I would find that nostalgic.

Could happen -- my LW was a Jobie, and is an active adult leader for a chapter in Albuquerque that I drive her to a couple times a month! Are you on Facebook? She'd probably enjoy meeting you -- she likes my poetry almost as much as you do!

Truth is, Owen, I'm only sort of on Facebook, with fewer than a dozen "friends", essentially limited to family. I never post anything myself, and only check to see what my children or grandchildren might be doing. But it's good to see that JD are doing well in Albuquerque. I remember many years ago, my bethel had to split because it was too large, but years later I visited a local one where there weren't enough members even to fill all the offices. I thought it was a sad reflection of shrinking interest in such organizations. But maybe I was prematurely sad?

Sandy: read your response to LW, and she'd like to friend you at https://www.facebook.com/brenda.j.watson.1?ref=br_rs

Owen, sent an email to you at owenkl@ etc. In fact, I sent two, because I stupidly put a whole message on the subject line of the first one. D'oh!

Hope that's a good address.

Sorry I forgot to check in today--busy day and didn't get to the Jumble until afternoon. But once again your poem helped me solve both one of the items and the final solution--so, as always, many thanks Owen. So glad you're feeling better today,

I glanced at the 6*6 before the CC and quickly got #1 . Usually 6 J's go slowly but I had all but #4. But scratching out the letters revealed the future .

The riddle became obvious when I guessed program especially since that's what I did .

In the day we did business solutions then wrote the programs . Later they separated the jobs.

Learning moment "Jobs". I know the Bible story of course .I like Balaam's ASS for which I noticed Wiki had no clue .

PS. I'm constantly amazed at how well Owen writes verse around the J's
