The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
Edwardo was a celeb, at least a wannabe.
ReplyDeleteThat he could barely spell, "pish-posh.
That's what proof-readers live for, gosh,
So that's of no concern to such as me!"
Edwardo had no bold ideas in his empty head.
His head just held outrageous hair-dos.
"To look eccentric for the role's a must-do
For outre entries, else to write instead!"
Edwardo was a whiny prat, part of his shtick.
He threw tantrums at the dropping of a hat.
And if mollified, tantrums threw at that!
"To be an A-list celeb, one must be a prick!"
Ok, I pooped out on this jumble. The clues were not hard, except for the second one, which should have been simple, but took a lot of staring before it became, duh, obvious. But I got hung up on the wrong middle word for the solution, and couldn't shake it, which left me with a third word that made no sense. Finally cheated and looked up the answer.
ReplyDeleteI had scoured your poem, Owen, and found all the relevant words, but just didn't realize that you don't generally repeat yourself. Ah well, some days are better than others.
BTW, were you writing a fantasy or a commentary?
When I saw the baseball cartoon as this morning's Jumble, I thought oh-oh--sports is not my thing and I figured I'd have trouble. But all four words fell right into place without any problem, and I got the solution instantly because I could tell we would have a two word repetition. A total delight, and a pleasure to do so well on both the crossword puzzle and the Jumble on this first quiet morning of a busy week. And, of course, it was fun finding the words in your poem, Owen, many thanks for that too. Have a good day, everybody.
ReplyDeleteLike Sandy, I got hung up on the wrong middle word, so that blokcked the solution while I tried to do it on line last night.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, when I waited to do it this morning, with my pen on the newspaper page, I saw the right middle word (a conjunction!) right away.
And that's all she wrote...
~ OMK
I couldn't get the riddle until Sandy, OMK and Misty had just enough hints to clear it up. #1 and #3 a little work.
