  1. I wonder sometimes why we’re so alone,
Just four of us (now three?) on this whole page.
When Owen started it, he made it known
To our Crossword pals, inviting them to engage.
Misty & Sandy were swift to heed the call.
Then Wilbur & I joined the club.  Our clan was alive!
Counting Owen, our chief, he & we were all--
Five congregants! Perhaps our cult could thrive.
Where now to find new Jumblers?  Could it be
Too few of those who share the Corner store
Are into anagrams?  Or do they see
Their days too jammed to add another chore?

Maybe those who stop by for a peek
Perceive us as a clique--or just trรจs chic

  3. I slipped in some French

    We are the jumble denizens
Of this Jewel of a club
Loving it, yes, but here's the nub
Come one, come many ye citizens

Help us expand. Be fleet to join
Whether mild or merry; vieux ou jeune
The time is now, the need is now
If you're reading this then you know how

  4. Well, with Sandy not checking in a few times lately, I too have begun to worry about this blog, which means so much to me. So I appreciated your comments, Ol'Man Keith, followed by your neat poem, Wilbur. I wonder if it might be worth posting a notice about the Jumble on the crossword puzzle blog, to see if anyone might be interested in joining us? They would need to get their Jumble in the paper, or elsewhere? Just a thought--I'd hate to have us fold.

I had trouble with the fourth Jumble word this morning, but got the solution instantly. Delightful cartoon, especially in color.

  5. I have been having a few difficulties, but I would hate to see this blog go away. Owen is putting forth a lot of effort despite difficulties, and that inspires me. So I'll be here

This jumble was pretty easy; no more than a moment's hesitation on any clue, and the solution pretty much popped right out, what with the first word so obvious.
    Poor clock!

  6. The "first" word indeed was obvious. Except I thought it would be the third. And I did use 3/4 words plus the riddle-solution in my poem. Number 1 is strongly hinted at eg synonymous.

Misty, I nominate you to post the invitation. Good to see Sandy, hope all goes well for you

  7. , I slipped in some French too. Isn't it helpful--when we're struggling to find the perfect rhyme?!

What you began to do, and what I wouldn't even try, was to copy Owen's special magic of incorporating the jumble words (or forms of them) in your verse. I really can't imagine doing such a thing myself, and certainly not on a regular basis.

I am old fashioned in respects to poetic structure. I like the discipline of meter and rhyme. Indeed, I favor traditional forms, from sonnets to haiku. When a form is new to me, I enjoy learning how it works. Each presents words and images with a special impact, just as different actors speak their lines with their own attitude and tone.

And if you've read this far, you've spotted your meager reward--Ol'Man Keith's-style hint to today's solution!

  8. Sorry!
I slipped in my coding, so my last post dropped your name, Wilbur. The first two paragraphs were meant for you, good sir!

  9. So sorry to hear about your tough time, Sandyanon, and thank you so much for checking in today.

Ol'Man Keith, would you be willing to post an invitation on the crossword blog letting people know about the Jumble? Or should we ask C.C. to do it? (I'm not sure she would like to do that, however, even though she was supportive of our starting a separate site). I just haven't come up with a proper way to word or say it.

  10. I'll be happy to do it, Misty. But we need to be strategic about it. Which weekday do you think has the best chance of winning attention?
Wilbur, Owen, Sandy: Which day do you think best?
Misty is right about C.C.. She won't do it. She asked me to refrain when I was posting invitations earlier. (I don't know her motive, but she is definitely opposed to advertising another site on the Corner.)
Still, I will DARE another notice. She'll either let it slide, or send me another reprimand, but I doubt she will erase it.
I want to pick the best timing, as it will likely be a one-off.
(Or maybe, maybe... we can take turns? Please chime in.)

  11. So do you mean referring people to the link Owen created? Is that really an advertisement or simply a reminder? Surely that's not objectionable.

  12. I didn't think so either. But it was just an invitation with, as you say, a referral.
