Lincoln was a serious leader, up to the challenge of uniting a divided country. But he was no Puritan. Unlike Shakespeare's Malvolio, he enjoyed telling folksy tales and even vulgar jokes. (In Twelfth Night, Sir Toby famously characterizes Malvolio as one who hates fun and would prefer there be "no more cakes and ale.")

I only had a little trouble with the fourth clue, but not for long. And the solution came pretty easily too -- quite straightforward and probably not really meant to be funny.

Well, I got the four words with just a little work, but was stumped by the solution--although it, of course, makes perfect sense. Loved seeing the words in your poem, Wilbur, thanks for that. And I now get your gloss, Ol'Man Keith. But I miss Owen and his poems, and hope he's all right. And nice to have you back, Sandyanon.

Wilbur, those poems are GREAT! I miss doing them myself, but just getting the cartoon up before midnight is all I can bring myself to the past couple days, and no way to predict the future. OMK, you can turn the blog over to a new day if I haven't set it to do so at midnight. There should be a link from your profile page. What you'll need to do from there you'll need to figure out yourself, I'm afraid. Once you've done it once, and bookmarked the "dashboard" page, it will be easy the next time, I assure you. And I can still add the cartoon afterwards, I know, so don't worry about that yet. I'm pretty sure that I'll never get so deep I can't at least paste up the cartoon, but it may not be until late in the morning before I get to it.
