The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

  1. I can't say today's solution fits the cartoon, even when I try to narrow the gap in my rhyme. Zeros are not any better known to be "moshing" nuts than to be engaged in the activity claimed for them here.
Where's the beef? (Or indeed any food at all?)

Ps. There's always a chance I have misunderstood the solution, so I'll be glad of a correction.

  2. Mary had a little dragon,
Its scales were sharp as razors
It really was the cutest thing!
Its claws could shock like tasers!

She took it to a graveyard
    Where hairy zombies drool.
It ate a few for breakfast,
And a snack for after school!

    Now Mary was a human
And a dragon is a wyrm.
Its breath is good for nothing much,
    But drying Mary's perm.

    Yet after eating zombies
Its breath was foul with stench.
    So now he's doing P.R.
    For "Trump For President!"

  3. Well, I got the first three Jumble words instantly, but had trouble with the fourth one--even though it probably fit the cartoon perfectly. I then got the first word of the Jumble solution, even without the fourth word, but was a bit stumped by the second. Still, an unusual and funny cartoon, with a cute solution. Enjoyed your gloss, Ol'Man Keith, and your poem, Owen.

  5. Hobbits are humble but hairy head to feet
Hospitable and kind, as friendly as you'll meet
Cutest critter those dwarves had ever met
Was he their burglar? Not one would lay a bet.

    They'd brought the wizened wizard
And they'd also brought a map
1/12 of the treasure was the trump card.
Bilbo thought, "I'm late for my daily nap".

For sitting in the mountain was a dragon fierce
Fire breathing with armor no arrow could pierce.
Twixt Hobbiton and there, were other dangerous things
Trolls, orcs, elves and perhaps hostile human beings

Nothing much had Bilbo seen from his safe front door
The last thing he'd need or want was to travel and explore

  6. And... OMK, your "Gloss" was right on. Actually, I needed the riddle-solution to grok #4. My problem is transposing letters.

Back in the 90s with Coach K with Duke and NC I thought of their game as the Vowels(NC) vs the Consonants. ..

  7. Nice how you worked all the Jumble words and the solution into your Hobbit poem, Wilbur.

  8. Enjoyed your Bilbo poem, Wilbur, and chuckled, remembering the movie hobbits' hairy feet.

Owen, I thought your poem clever, especially the sideways political mention!

The jumble was not difficult, except a little bit the fourth clue, as mentioned. I really thought the solution was kind of lame.

  9. Thanks Ladies. Owen forewarned me that I'd get some good Bilbo material today and lo and behold there's #3.

I hope I can get Bilbo out of Hobbiton by the end of the month.

  10. Actually, Friends, I was wrong.

I transposed letters in the 4th clue word, giving myself an "s" as part of my solution.
This what led to my solution--not "nothing much," but "noshing much."
Hence my questions about the beef or "indeed any food at all."

You wouldn't be able to detect my error from my hinting rhyme, of course, as "moshing" could be for either word.

    Thank you for your responses!
