  1. If they made a movie of my life,
They'd want it with romance and strife.
With soupy love scenes and bravado --
My character would have a cameo.

It's not exciting to rhyme a text,
To fill one stanza, then the next.
No danger of a cliff-side fall,
No chance of injury at all.

I just stare at an open window
    Wondering what words therein go.
Time will pass, my mind is blank.
Then something comes! My Muse I thank!

  2. Park caretakers have a hard enough time cleaning those giant clocks up in high towers.
They must also remove accumulated dirt and bird droppings from the various statues, to say nothing of keeping those commemorative plaques free of all that brass grime that builds up in the lettering.

  3. Lefty had an air of nonchalance, a certain savoir faire
Unusual in this broken-down, bush league borough
On in age, tired arm but his look said "I've been there"
But truth be told his stay in the Bigs was just a cameo.

"If I'd not been injured, I'd've shown 'em all a thing or two
The ol' soup bone just needed oiling up, now it's feeling fine"
But the last Stanza of the anthem was barely through
'Fore opposing batters were driving balls on the line.

The manager trudged out to the mound to make the call
"If I leave you in any longer I'll be charged a baseball crime
Your fastball's flat, your curves are straight, just give me the ball"
And from the stands came the sad words "Busher, you're passed your time!"

    1. The "Busher" was Lefty Sprockett who was a character created by Norm Nathan a disc jockey in Boston. Or, Talk Show host. Norm's secretary was Madeline Gorelnick.

  4. Owen, your poem about the creative process inspired me. I read it at 5:30 EDT and dreamed poetically.

  5. My goodness, lots of great poetry to start the week--many thanks to you both, Owen and Wilbur. Nice to see both the Jumble words and the solution in your poems. And we now have Lefty to follow down the line, to help us jazz the time.

Where would I have seen a clock tower like this? Loved the colorful cartoon, and got all four words and solution instantly. Yes, Ol'Man Keith, it probably does collect some grime that requires time to clean the brass.

  6. With regard to that 2nd stanza, Owen, I must disagree with your appraisal of the excitement level in the poetic process.
There may be no physical danger, but when the muse connects & you thank her w/ a bang, I say with Misty, "WooHoo!"

Wilbur ~ That's a fine baseball fantasy you dreamed up following Owen's midnight opus.
Would you say that he--or his inner-He?--is the figure in cameo in your work?

  7. OMK, the baseball term is "I had a cup of coffee". A brief call up to the Major leagues for a liftime Minor leaguer.

My father had a friend like that and was afraid of it happening to me. I'd have welcomed a dozen years playing Minor Leagues
