  1. I used to be a dedicated hiker, devoted to ripping apart the sloth of social routine, to
    take to the trail, and...

    "Sunder the Troll"
I learned good habits through my years in Scouting,
practices I put to good use when, in later years,
solo camping trips, long hikes, & weekend outings
were my way to unwind. I found healthy cheer
in lonely treks up the California coast, or walking
from the Bois de Boulogne to Versailles and back.
It was a great relief to do without talking
for days on end. I never regretted the lack
of company. I'd carry my sleeping bag & half tent,
    a terrain map & a compass. I never took a camera,
preferring to use my eyes & my memory. I found I spent
good visual time taking sightings. I had more stamina
than I needed. And let me tell you the truth--I'm no liar!--
I always remembered to douse my campfire.

  2. The Jumble solution came easily this morning, but I had trouble with the third word.
So came here, and was happy to find Ol'Man Keith's delightful poem--and there was the missing word. So thank you, OMK--so glad you had good and safe camping trips.

Still having TV problems, and have been waiting for a half hour for someone to answer the phone. So, am not up for trying a poem--but maybe later in the day.

  3. I guess
    loneliness
    isn't only to be found
    in Jumbles.

    Hullo!
    Anybody here...?

  4. Here I am. Having the weeks inset of puzzles I just solved Tuesday and realized I never visited the J gang.

Yes, #3 was a poser but so obvious when the letters fell.

OMK, the verse seems to roll off your fingers. Do you recall Wilfred's sworn enemy in "Ivanhoe", Brian?*

Misty, I see you are friends with Owen. I couldn't get a friend request to you but if BB pops up send me one.

A shame that happened. I wonder if a "GoFundMe" can be organized. I hear of those things as incredible as they sound.

Then again I was informed that I was a winner of the Facebook lottery and started spending the money* until my son Phillip saw it and ROTFL.

  5. Thanks, Wilbur ~
I could wish they would "roll off [my] fingers." I'm afraid they require a bit more coaxing than that. But I am glad if they strike you that way; that's my aim.
And yes, I do remember Brian!

    Happy Oct 12, everybody.
There is ongoing debate about whether to call it Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples' Day.
I prefer to remain neutral. In my mind, it is the
    "Great Come-together Day"!
