Feb. 21, 2021 Sunday

|| | cheek, unity, maniac, jaguar, junkman. | tussle, remake, mutton, plight, magpie, attend, that sounds great.
Image from the Internet.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

  1. As you can see, my source for the J4 cartoon is still offline. I think that the picture I found will adequately take its place for today.

  2. FLN: - Yes, Wilbur, you're right.
The Russo-Japanese War was settled by the Bretton Woods Agreement.
Funny to think of the representatives of those two countries coming to New Hampshire to meet with Roosevelt (TR!) to conclude peace.

I wonder: Is Bretton Woods anywhere near Grover's Corners?

  3. "Fighting"

The boys got into a tussle,
but Mike had the stronger muscle.
    They made the floor shake
    with each punch they'd remake,
    until Pete in his plight
    could no longer hold tight
    and had to attend
    for the fighting to end.
Since Mike was a pretty good mate
he was happily willing to state
"Hey, Pete, you really sound great."
    That night they had mutton
    their friendship to button,
    and again it could fly
    like a breezy magpie.
    So their fighting day ends
with Mike and Pete being friends.

  4. Owen, just a note to say that I can't imagine that the j4 cartoon could be any more appropriate for that jumble than the great picture you posted.

  5. J4:

    "No Junk, Man..."
I was a bit of a maniac about my cars,
seeing them as the one extravagant sign
of my cheeky success in life.
My last three were all Jaguars.
All black and shiny, smooth-riding and fine.
I left the sober mini-van to my wife.

There was unity in my theme
for all three. Despite being so-oo nice
    (the manifestation of a dream),
they were purchased "Used," for a sensible price.

    J6:

    "Sound of a Vegan"
    Attend in your dance to
the plight of the flight of the sheep,
    of Bo-Peep's young Rams!

    They've been enhanced. You
find in your deep, in your haunted sleep,
the muttony taste of those lambs.

    And if you eat
    of their meat,
you can share how they came
through the tussle as they were rustled,
    from that shepherdess of fame,
    to your table.

    The moral of our fable?
--whether the original or its remake,
    or of the latest fake?
"It's OK to devour a fellow mammal
if your conscience you would trammel."

    (Once its platter's in disguise
    you can always choose
    to sing its blues
    or heed a magpie's lies.)

  6. Sandy ~ To echo your words to Owen, I agree he made a sound choice.

In the spirit of Owen's recent afterword, let me say that I am not--personally--a vegan.
Except of course when it comes to lamb.

Misty ~ The rhymes served you well today, leading you through a good fight story to a peaceful conclusion.
Mike seems to be the good chap all around, able to teach Pete a lesson, but doing it in the nicest way.
With a better conclusion than Bretton Woods, I'd say.
