The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

    "Noun Hid"
    Big Daddy complained vehemently.
    "Mendacity!" he roared.
    He accused the family frequently;
he'd neither be soothed nor ignored.
He figured he'd come out ahead
    if no one replied,
if no one tried, or espied,
    and nobody sped.

  2. "Long Journey"

They offered the bum some liquid,
he took it and ran off and hid.
But then the poor old chap
    had an annoying mishap:
    he couldn't open the nozzle,
    and that created a puzzle.
He wished he had a banner,
or had shown a better manner.
    But then the bottle popped
and up the liquid he mopped.
    Ah, drinking and getting wetter
made him feel so much better.
It gave him a whole new entity
to come back and live in the city.
Since he'd never committed a crime
and had never served any time,
and since he was healthy and tall,
he got a job at the mall.
His journey had been quite long,
but it ended in a song.

  3. Well J4 from Keith, and J6 from Margot, so we're all covered even without any poems from me! Putting together both puzzles rather exhausted me, I'm afraid. I had a mental image of what I wanted for the J4 picture, but just could not find anything to match it! Finally settled for this one, and hope it helped you all to solve that puzzle.

  4. Thanks for setting up the site so well, Owen. Sorry you ran out of steam, but glad you could take a rest.
I felt beat too, so went with what I had on the J4, then conked out. My nuanced reference to the 4th word may have been too subtle, but I found dreamland too tempting to pass up.

Misty ~ Your tale of the "bum" turned into quite an epic. What a transformation, what a grand musical ending for your hapless hobo!
We should all learn what it was he was drinking*.

  5. Thank you, Owen, for setting up the puzzles.

And your comments always make me happy, Ol' Man Keith--thank you for that too!

  6. Once matters were settled in no time at all for the haughty Beaumanoir
It was full speed ahead for Richard to complete his various devoirs.
He'd spotted the Curtal Friar with Allen a Dale and thought
Of Bonnie Robin, the trysting tree and the draughts
Of liquid from the merry nozzle from which he'd so pleasantly
Wetted his thirst. Soon he must soothe matters with Saxon peasantry.
The mishap with Duke Leopold of Austria had delayed
His return. Then he'd been hounded by Fitzhurse to his dismay.
The punishment of his miscreant brother John , so richly deserved,
Must be forsaken for he was Daddy's little boy and the Queen reserved
The right to judge. Richard was never one for nuances of justice
His goal was to make England one entity and to make peace
Between Saxon and Norman. And closer to home reconcile
Wilfred and Cedric and make Coningsburgh a happy domicile.
His arrival at York was heralded by the banner of the Plantagenets
And for just a moment in time England was at peace even for just a few days.

    1. I beseech thy pardon. Cedric's abode is Rotherwood. Coningsburgh is a Norman castle near York
