I know you only get the Sunday J6 in the LA Times, but if you wait a bit, Owen always makes sure to post both the J4 & J6 here.
There is a natural lag time between the two, but he really does a great service in bringing them both to us.
(It is far more than I would be able to do; the man is a marvel!)

Today's verse comes to us courtesy of too many camping trips with my scout troop. The voice is that of Mr. Headley, our dear scoutmaster.

"We were hoping to make a joyful noise,
but somebody doused the fire.
Now the gravy's not ready! Was it one of you boys?
You better spring for another. Don't be a liar!"

Davy returned from the navy,
a career he had found quite gravy.
His family with cheers did douse
his return, at last, to his house.
On that sunny day in spring,
his children their bells did ring.
He had brought them a box so toy-ful
it made them happy and joyful.
His wife said, "It's been so long,
let me greet you with a sweet song."
So Davy is now happy at home,
and plans never again to roam.

Davy's homecoming is familial and sweet,
his tour on the ocean finished, complete.
Your tale of Davy couldn't be calmer.
I only wonder, where's the drama?

with lots of conflicts on the wavy.
Now that Davy's back home with his wife
he doesn't need any strife.

We're not concerned for Davy at war,
but for readers who seek a little bit more.
It needn't be loaded with mayhem and gore,
but Conflict in the theme
is a narrative dream
& keeps our work from inducing a scholarly snore.
