The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

The clue words are offered here in an ode to an old diesel petrol-glugging auto, self-consciously sizing itself up against an all-electric car and a gas/electro hybrid. It feels its isolated status as one that's about to be discarded forever.
"[To be] Smothered in a Pall?"
The lonely gas-guzzler turned its hood
away from the hybrid job, the one that stood
toward the right of the battery-only car.
The outmoded diesel knew it was far
outpaced by the others, its filthy engine
grimed in sludge, regularly mentioned
as an official polluter, its awards chart vacant
of eco-friendly credits, its status a vagrant,
indulgent, and inward-seeking psyche:
of which it need only be said, "Crikey!"

"Married Love"
ReplyDeleteHer husband was named Paul,
with a character over the wall.
His antics she endured
and toward his charms was lured.
He never bore a grudge
and was tidy, and never a sludge.
His humor was funny and blatant
and his jokes were never vacant.
He acted like a big kid,
colorful like a hybrid.
He was her one and only
and never left her lonely.
Held inward in her heart,
she knew they would never part.
Looks like we both did the J6 today. Owen has posted both the J4 and J6 for us--as usual--but I saw more inspiration in the latter. Maybe I'll find time to work on the shorter one later today, if Easter and the Spring weather combine to give me extra energy! Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteYour Paul seems an extraordinary character. Can there really be such a big happy lug? In my experience (of which I gain more every day!) such a husband can only be found in the eyes of an amazingly understanding and supremely forgiving wife.
I'd love to know more about her qualities! Let's have her name and number in the next ode!

OK - how about this. All metaphor, no time for rhyme.

"[When the] Till is Filled"
I look upon our neighborhood ATM
as a big friendly cat.
So long as I keep the big kitty fed
she takes a benign view of my need for cash
and disgorges same from her metal mouth
in a most timely fashion.

If rhyme is wanted, how about this?
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you have a preference.
I look upon our neighborhood ATM
as a big friendly cat.
So long as I keep the old kitty fed
she takes a benign view when my wallet's flat.
From her metal mouth she disgorges cash
in a manner timely, if not rash.

Believe it or not, Ol' Man Keith, my late husband Rowland was even kinder, sweeter, better, more classy and wiser, taller and more good-looking, and just all-around more wonderful than Paul--so there are guys out there like that and, yes, it feels like a miracle when you end up with one.
ReplyDeleteI finally got to the Sunday J6 and solved remarkably fast. Even the riddle-solution popped when I thought of COVER.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have a diesel car which has a sludge problem. BMW so that equals $$$.
I agree Rowland seems to have been a great guy only rivaled by his luck in finding Misty.
