The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
Weird, the poor saps who did this online didn't get the question!
ReplyDeleteFLN, Wilbur ~ Your BoSox/Yankees poem was a beaut, with real energy and presence.
ReplyDeleteBut no, I'm afraid I remained pretty oblivious to what was happening in the other end of the commonwealth. The Berkshires have a very different "feel" from the rest of MA.
"Shady Grady"
Grady was the perfect pigeon, out of his depth,
putting his two cents in where he had no sense,
no notion, neither of the width nor the breadth
of the issues. Where a wise man might be on the fence,
he'd take one side, would Grady,
then the next, for a 180.
He'd seesaw back & forth, yo-yo up & down,
doin' his flip-flop, hippity-hop--the perfect clown!
~ OMK
"Brave Dave"
ReplyDeleteDave felt out of his depth
when into a new job he leapt.
His employers wanted his input
when the rules he'd not yet understood.
So a diagram he tried to draw,
but it only revealed a seesaw.
He became tired of being a pigeon
and needed a new situation.
So although it made his boss frown
he decided to step down.
After searching for new work
he took on a job as a clerk.
It had modest pay and was humble
but now Dave needs no longer to stumble.
Brava!
ReplyDeleteA fine job, Misty ~ Your Dave is the perfect foil to Grady. Dave knows when he's "out of his depth," one of the markers of true intelligence.
He may have felt he was being taken advantage of, as a potential pigeon, but he knew enough to avoid being used! Well done!
~ OMK
Well, I hope Sandy has been following the saga of the 2004 AL Cgampionship. Rumor has it that Dave and Grady were on the edge of their seats.
ReplyDeleteThe denouement
The seventh and deciding game would be played at the venerable Stadium
The depth of feeling between these towns promised more manic delirium
The Sox had been the Yankees pigeons for time in memoriam
Slight changes to the picture but still the same old Dorian
Listening to the input gleaned from wizened veterans of the wars
It promised to be another seesaw battle. Who'd come to the fore?
And Johnny Damon it was who joined Big Papi as hero of the day
Time to step down NewYorkers, for the Redsox now hold sway

Yes, Wilbur, I have been reading, and enjoying, the saga.
ReplyDeleteThough I am by upbringing and inclination, more of a NL than AL fan!
ReplyDeleteOl' Man Keith, I really liked the way we tackled the same situation in two slightly different ways. A real pleasure to these Jumble responses.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Wilbur, even though I don't know my sports. Glad to see Sandy is following you carefully.
