The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
I'm too early, Owen. Will check back in the morning. Night!!

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't my nature to get excited, I usually exercised caution
I preferred to mellow out with my favorite herbal concoction
But it was clear that I'd been chosen , so I kept an open mind
The idea that there was help for me was absurd, I was blind
To the idea of change but my current condition was horrific.
But I came to the meeting, and was handed the Big Book:
"Pay attention to the italics"

"Puzzle Queen"
ReplyDeleteWhen Tina was still an unseen teen
she determined to become a puzzle queen.
She had chosen this for her career
because she had nothing to fear.
Her friends found her choice absurd,
but Tina loved word after word.
In her world there was nothing so slick
as rhyming a word like "italic."
Drinking tea that was warm and herbal,
she spent her days being verbal.
Every puzzle was sure to excite
and take her to a new height.
She had no caution to exercise,
and as you might well surmise,
Tina won a great puzzle prize.
She is now no longer unseen
but a first-rate puzzle queen.
I just noticed that I missed a word, here is a final couplet to my prior post
ReplyDeleteI was advised of the tradition of anonymity; remembe where you've been
But not people, places and things. Who you see here must remain unseen

Greetings, all!
ReplyDeleteAnd a Happy August to Misty, Wilbur, Owen, & Sandy ~ the loyalists of JumbleHints.
I see a plethora--or maybe just a multitude?--of couplets today, plus one tercet or triplet (thanks to Ms. Misty) to break things up.
The clue words are well covered by the offerings.

Just came back inside, after doing my exercise regimen under crystal clear skies.
ReplyDeleteFeeling grateful to live here in our so-called "Mediterranean" climate. It doesn't seem to be affected YET by the climate changes attacking other communities.
Wondering if it has changed at all from old Spanish days.
Cloudless blue Agosto primero.
Azul—azura, full of light.
With warmth to wrap one’s bod so tight-
ly, it flows so low
it cooks the inner gum
of my hypodermium.

Wilbur, wonderful to read that Chet is going to start making some progress, however difficult it may still seem to him. Also great to see the Jumble solution and all the words except one. And then a bit later to have you solve that problem with an additional two lines. Yay! A great job!
ReplyDeleteOl' Man Keith, you are managing to puzzle me greatly today--in very interesting ways, of course. First, you gave us that dissected white rabbit--maybe telling us that you were late because you were in a hurry?
Then so glad to hear of your wonderful outdoor exercise. Yes, we southern Californians are lucky to continue to have such lovely weather, aren't we? And you pay tribute to that with your cloudless blue August sky verse. But just no Jumble anywhere? Well, why not take a Sunday off if you can--no problem!
Thanks, Misty ~
ReplyDeleteYes, I have been taking Sundays off for the past several weeks--with the exception of last week only.
When I started doing it, I alerted everybody in advance. But I've given that up. It doesn't mean of course that I won't chime in as an audience member. Or offer a non-Jumble verse as the mood may strike.
Today was an especially blessed day. But I have to say it gets hard to tell one glorious day from another. It becomes a matter of whether you prefer absolutely cloudless skies, or blue with streaks of fluffy white.
My wife isn't fond of days that reach the upper 80s, while I don't favor temps below 75.
Jack Spratt, eh?

OMK, he could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean, but so, between them both, I see, they kept their platters clean--just like you and your wife, in a sense.
