  1. "Miss Kitty is Entertained"
A finch landed atop the bookcase,
attracting the gaze of a feline below.
It strutted along the shelf with ease,
daring the cat with a lively tease,
    a fancy tune & high-steppin' show.

After a time, Kitty's eyes glazed,
filled with the sight that dazed & amazed
    her. Recovering enough to leap
at the bird, she jostled a book,
    the whole bookcase shook,
and buried her under a biblio-heap.
(A whole day to dig out was damn well what it took.)

  2. Woohoo, Ol' Man Keith--brilliant morning poem, there's no way I can come anywhere close to anything as clever. I'm going to have to work on mine some more. Can't believe you produced "biblio-heap." Woohoo.

  3. "Animal House"

The zoo began a new phase
when it opened an outdoor maze
with a wall with a golden glaze.

    The addition housed a feline
and a finch with feathers quite fine,
and other critters who had a good time.

At the exit there was a sign
    that invited visitors to dine
and enjoy some snacks and some wine.

    The owner and his wife
did jostle their income a little
to give the zoo a long life,
    and enjoy some peanut brittle.

  4. You mustn't think to compete
    with little Ol' Keith.
I can't write near as sweetly,
    nor half so petitely
    as you at your best.

    You beat all the rest
    for neat, tidy lines
    and jocular rhymes.
    I often claim a prize
    when I economize.
    Or going with a hunch
    for an ending with punch.

Still, I can't match your mettle
when it comes to peanut brettle!

  5. OMK, you're on a roll,
    reaching a great new goal
with the kindness of your verse,
    crafted, smart, and terse.
No, wait, your poem is longer,
and I bet that's why it is stronger!

  6. Misty ~
    My point, of course
(not to flog a dead horse),
    is there's no competition.
    We each have a mission
    that suits our own style.

    There's a pentameter mile
    between the kinds of verse
    we each choose to nurse.

Back when I offered you notes
    I was hoping to coax
you to reach your own goals.
But I may have flipped roles,
    teasing you to write
    as I myself might.

    You know an old prof
    is likely to get off
on thinking his way is correct.
    I should be more circumspect.

I ask forgiveness for crossing the line
in the past. I shall stick to what's mine,
while the thrum of your drum
    wins every plum.

    I’m happy to be mum.

  7. FINCH rang a bell so I dredged this up.

We shuffled into class at the Ed building, Finch hall,
Ready to be doused in literature an hour in her thrall
For yes, it was Ms Norris that would guide in the mysteries of Joyce
Unlike any prof we'd had in Econ, she was feisty but sweet of voice

We heard about diverse theoretical perspectives and
    Oppositional contextualization
Bored we were but we got misty-eyed at the melodious peroration

  8. Different rhymes, different reasons,
    like Paul's gospel to Ephesians,
wherein "'tis ordained upon this day
we each walk our purposive way."*

    Thus Wilbur salutes Misty although
he strides in his very own glow
and she in hers--their strong authorings
    each complete offerings
    to the sweet muse, Erato,
    in this our Jumble grotto.

  9. My goodness, more and more thanks
    I owe to you both.
    With your great ranks
    your wisdom is growth.
