The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
San Diego, so I've been told,
ReplyDeleteHarbors people of a different mold!
Sun worshipers tanning on the beach,
Surfers vying the waves to reach!
Geriatric set to college babes
In two-piece suits that ne'er touch waves.
Peaceniks with their tee-shirts blaring
Causes to the caring and uncaring!
Cagey grifters, with three-card monte,
Giving a chance to all and sundry!
There's Navy sailors in their uniforms,
And maybe even a few of us norms!

Since the first attack the beach was nearly void
of people. The great white brute was cagey though:
It stalked the shoreline in and out, annoyed
at the absence of what it saw as the flow
of gray seals (and un-finned two-legged critters).
It would keep its distance, aware it seems
of the spears & nets and the skiffs filled with litters,
all vibrating with jitters deferring shark dreams.
But, darting in every now & then, it would dance
past those enemy defenders, taking a chance
that their aim was no good, all because it had seen
those seals whose skins tasted of neoprene!

Wow! First thing in the morning, two terrific poems both inspired by the BEACH that began our Jumble this morning. Very exciting to see people enjoying their time on the shore in Owen's poem, and whales enjoying their time in the water in Ol' Man Keith's. Beautifully crafted and delightful--thank you both.

ReplyDeleteBob and Betty met on the beach
and discovered they both liked to teach.
They were not at all cagey, but open
about how with their jobs they were coping.
In the next few weeks, piece by piece,
their friendship a new level did reach.
And so slowly, after that first glance,
they developed a lovely romance.
And before long, in a church with a steeple
they married, surrounded by people.
And that evening they celebrated the chance
that had brought them to their wedding dance.
Ah! Bob & Betty,
ReplyDeleteit would seem,
return dear Misty
to a favored theme,
one that ends
with a wedding dream.

Dear Keith, you are so very kind
ReplyDeletenever my marriage verse to mind.
I'm not sure that's something everyone can,
but that's why it makes you my favorite fan.
Keith skiffs filled with puppies or kittens?
ReplyDeleteNo, Owen, heheheh.
