The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
It makes me think of Sinatra and New York, New York.
ReplyDelete."...I'm leavin' today." I miss it, Sandy. I lived in the Village, then on the Upper West Side, on and off for a ten year stretch.
ReplyDeleteThen for 30 years I got to spend an annual week there--on UCI business.
Ah, but I don't travel anymore...
OK, Gang, I am postponing my day off. Today's clue words aligned themselves into a quasi-surreal poem I couldn't resist.
"Readily Absurd"
This unique outlet offers cuddly warmth
for two acts of submission: First one performs
the "Grumpy Salmon" tango--solo!--absurd
as it seems. Next comes the chickening-out verb,
"I surrender," all the while dreading that word.

"Getting the Word Out"
ReplyDeleteThe salmon at the outlet was unique
and received a fantastic critique.
The cuddly warmth of the place made us happy,
never grumpy or complaining or snappy.
It was the perfect place for our wedding
and the news quickly started spreading.
Once the word got out we were set:
and now we're happily wed.
Misty is a poet in her own right,
ReplyDeleteWhose words are so often a delight!
She uses this blog as a talent outlet,
Treating each entry as a cuddly pet!
She comes here like a salmon to spawn,
Each new poem like a shiny new dawn!
A unique warmth suffuses verses she wards,
Spreading love, not grumpy, cross words!
(I may be setting a record for mixed and strained metaphors! I also had a tough decision on whether to cite Misty, Keith, Wilbur, or even Sandy's infrequent but always welcome and appreciated versifications!)
Agreed, Owen, for Misty is always upbeat and rarely offers even a trace of the grump!
ReplyDeleteToday's verse rates especially high for non-"mill"ing economy.
Neat & to the point.
Only three more lines than yrs trly (which is really saying something)!
~ OMK
As today's words seem more connected than usual, I couldn't not think of haiku, still with a surreal touch. (I.e., not as grounded in realism as Misty.)
ReplyDeleteI imagine this as an advertisement for a sun-kissed tidal pool, open for happy fish only:
Unique cuddly warmth,
Keeping grumpy salmon out.
Let word spread--Absurd!
~ OMK
Dear Owen, I am just blown away by this lovely poem about me. How incredibly generous your thoughts are--thank you so much for this. And in addition you put the Jumble words into it, making it a regular Jumble site poem. I am just so pleased--thank you again.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, to have this followed by Ol' Man Keith's also kind comments continues to make my day. Thanks for those too.

ReplyDeleteThey say it's your birthday /
we're gonna have a good time -- yeah yeah yeah!
Well, happy birthday to ya!
~ OMK
Apologies for late birthday wishes from me too, Wilbur--hope you had a lovely day with friends and family!
