The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

  1. I really must get back to taking Sunday's OFF!
But meanwhile I call this one
    Steady as She Goes
    -or-
    "Ready for the Brig, Bros?"
From the gossip, I gather the other draftees--to avoid
    being assigned reputations as "yellow"--destroyed
the mess hall after lunch, burned it to the ground,
then engaged in fisticuffs with every non-com they found.

  2. "No More Gossip"

Greta asked her friends to gather
    to discuss an important matter.
There had been some troublesome gossip
that she needed her group to flip.
And because the problem was drafty
the solution had to be crafty.

    She therefore planned to engage
them for a performance on the stage.
To each friend a role she'd assign
to tell the truth to align
    against the gossip's mean malign.

For the performance the friends wore yellow
    to keep the visuals mellow.
The curtain opened and they were ready,
and their acting was cool and steady,
addressing the gossip of their foes
with truth, that now everyone knows.

And so the gossip was pulled out of line,
and things were once again fine.
And to thank them, Greta poured wine
at a dinner where they had a great time.

  3. The U.S. border with Canada is closed,
Because with Covid, no one knows,
    When we gather, who's infected,
    So all engagement is rejected!

    There's gossip that xenophobes,
    Those who all foreigners oppose,
Are keeping our vaxx rate low
So Canadians won't to the U.S. go!

So we'll put yellow ribbons on trees,
And ask Ottawa if they would, please,
Assign a status that is better rated
To all those who have been vaccinated!

Our border was so open it was drafty!
Now it's shut both ways to be nasty!
We look forward to the day, when again
It's steady as she goes between friends!

  4. Don't know much about draftees, OMK, but enjoyed your perky brief poem. And, as usual, all the Jumble words were there.

Owen, your US-Canada verse this morning was gentle and lovely, and you too had all the Jumble words and the solution to enhance it.

Many thanks to both of you for your Sunday treat!

  5. Misty, Greta's theater trick seems like something from a mystery-thriller film, or else an updating of the "Mousetrap" scene from Hamlet.
In either case, it might be an over-reaction when applied to "some troublesome gossip"--unless maybe the gossip was a false accusation of murder!

I was never a draftee myself, but I think my title may be misleading. I do not believe draftees were taken into the Navy or Marines, the only arms of the military that would have a "brig" for a jail.

Dang!! I was hoping to get ALL of the J-words into the first two lines.
As it is, I managed five of the six.

  6. Sorry I never got back to you, OMK. Someone one our street scheduled a Bern Drive Block Party tonight, and I attended and had a great time meeting up with old friends. But thank you, as always, for your interesting and thoughtful response to my poem. I always appreciate it.
