The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

  1. Kinda funny, I think…

    FLN, Misty ~
I was asking about the geese
for the sake of your arc.
    They were your lead,
    and just seemed to… depart.

    My response to today’s J:

    ”Multitasker Kat”
Kitty Kate is of an unusual mold,
one strange enough for her to be an alpha leader.
She was gifted at birth with an extra vocal fold,
which, aside from making her a super breeder,
endows her song with a stereo meow.
    She works in fact
    in a circus act,
where crowds picket her to take an extra bow.

  3. Re. Receiving the host, Catholic Rules. We're more relaxed here but re. Chet and Lois and the Fellowship They joined...

The 3rd tradition says all are welcome if they have a desire to get sober. Just like the desire to accept the 12 Step Principles makes one eligible to the benefits of said Fellowship so the willingness to accept Christian Principles is all that's required to accept the host. Message > Modality

I think many Catholics don't take much of the Bible literally. In fact the "Marriage" at Cana can be explained as Jesus reaching out to non Jewish who are willing to accept the message thus could take the Wine not just the water.

This was revolutionary so he asked the disciples not to broadcast it. Yet!

  4. "Got a Pet"

When Mary moved to the city
    she bought herself a kitty
and thought naming it Alpha was witty.

She took Alpha for rides on a bus,
and they went to see a circus
which created a bit of a fuss.

When her workplace had a strike
Mary did picket and shout support on a mike.
When it was over, she was happy to go
home to her kitty, and play the stereo
where their favorite song was 'O Sole Mio.'

  5. The alpha male in Dodge was a Marshall named Dillon
He had a hankering for Ms Kitty, he hoped that she was will'n
The Longbranch could be a circus when the Cowboys came to town
No stereo in them good ol' days, noise enough from that hoedown
Antietam, Gettysburg and Pickett's Charge were still fresh in minds
Fresh in Matt Dillon's mind was the hope for a tie that binds
That witty, wise and wonderful gal that tends that raucous bar
A partnership with Kitty next to his badge would be a shining star.

  6. Sandy, ditto on yech. I'm not familiar with that comic strip but Luann is a fave

Did you see the Ask Andy link about censorship of comics in the 50s. Wonder Woman = Bondage; Batman and Robin were gay etc.

    And Snoopy? Walter Mitty complex?

  7. Ol' Man Keith, what a delightful poem about that alpha leader Kitty! Hope she has a wonderful career in the circus with her lovely vocal talent, and hope she breeds more sweet Kitties like herself.

  8. Wilbur, hope everything works out well for Matt Dillon and Ms. Kitty

    And, by the way,

    Three quarks for Muster Mark!
Sure he hasn't got much of a bark
And sure any he has it's all beside the mark.
But O, Wreneagle Almighty, wouldn't un be a sky of a lark
To see that old buzzard whooping about for uns shirt in the dark
And he hunting round for uns speckled trousers by Palmerstown Park?
    Hohohoho, moulty Mark!

  9. Wilbur, hope you go back and read this. I looked up Matt Dillon and Miss Kitty, and one quote, from Amanda Blake, sums it up: "She'd love Matt to say, 'Kitty, let's buy a hunk o' land and raise some beans and kids.' But then we'd have I Love Lucy Out West."
James Arness agreed that if they ever got together, that would make it a completely different show.

So -- 20 years of not getting together.

  10. Misty ~ Glad my talented Kate met your approval. She lives to entertain & appreciates adding one more fan!
Mary’s cat seems to please her new mistress as well. I gotta kick outta them sharing “O Sole Mio.” (I pictured a lazy cat being steered around a rippling lagoon by a singing gondolier.)
And between us I dig the brilliant idea—wherever did you get it?—of naming that little feline “Alpha”!
