The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
Perhaps tedium was a factor
ReplyDeleteHe decided an abacus to master.
He found the moving beads soothing
When everything else was confusing!
His last stretch of employment:
Stitching thatch for later deployment.
His effort was considered grand
From his inclusion of floral strands.
Excellent, Owen: in eight brief lines you use “his” projects to offer a fine example of J-word economy!
ReplyDeleteTo you I’ll lift my cap & doff
it,
as I take a Sunday off,
but
I’ll offer as a parting shot
a near rhyme to the “solution,”
a semi-Spooner I just wrought!
(It may earn me an absolution.)
Imagine a wasteland void of life
save for a speedy songbird.
Got it? No sweat, nor need for strife.
Just one critter?—how absurd!
—one of the swiftest
e’er measured
o’er its eponymous
“Fast Finch Desert”!

"Musical Pitch"
ReplyDeleteMitch was a very fine actor
and his singing was a factor.
A role with parts that were choral
made his performances floral,
with lyrics gentle and smooth
that did everyone's spirits soothe.
Yes, musical acting provided a medium
with excitement and no tedium,
no fuss or reason to cuss--
a plus for his abacus.
His acting was no last ditch effort
for a star of Mitch's sort.
Good to see Misty taking the stage with her "Mitch."
ReplyDeleteWe missed her after the morning yesterday
& were concerned that she might maybe be having more deletion problems!
Mitch is lucky to be a singer, making him at least a double-threat.
I admit that song was never a strong "factor" for yours truly. I could carry a tune, but was always a little shy when given solos.
Ah, but I could dance! Watch out, Mitch; we don't see that on your resumé.
(In theater, the desideratum is the triple-threat: to act, sing, & dance.)

Owen, congratulations on your neat, clever verses that incorporated all the Jumble words and solution. Well done!
ReplyDeleteOl' Man Keith, your "Fast Finch Desert" was indeed a great last ditch effort for dealing with a tough Jumble this morning. Yay!
And thank you for your kind response to Mitch. I knew he was invading your professional territory in a not totally compatible way, but it's so great to hear that you were not only a terrific actor but also a great dancer. Woohoo!
(says someone who can't act, sing, or dance)
Glad you got the Finch gag, Misty.
ReplyDeleteIt was a little far-fetched for either a rhyme or spooner, but as Touchstone says, "... [Oh,] sir, an ill-favored thing, sir, but mine own."
