The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
I seem unable to keep to my own plan for taking Sundays off. Today’s J-words turned me onto my own fanciful reflections on the Xmas mission of Santa Claus.
ReplyDeleteI can remember believing in his visits. My dad was one of those who dressed up to fool me. I vividly recall my mom waking me to say hello to him. Through my sleep-addled eyes he appeared much taller—and thinner—than I expected.
I remember too thinking how sad it was that my dad wasn’t here to see him!
Anyway, here is my response to today’s Jumble:
“Down the Chimney with (the Biz of) Ol’ St. Nick!”
‘Tis the season for Santa’s annual leap
from house to house—a sweaty business, harder
by degrees than the toil of your common chimney sweep.
Round & round the world his unfailing ardor
keeps him happily hopping along Cloud Nine.
His love of kids still draws his laden sleigh,
driving his caribou ‘cross the date line
abruptly through Yule to good St. Stephen’s Day.
A shorter, cozier journey might have been planned,
but Santa ne’er shirked true labor—Kudos to the man!

I’m pretty sure we can all remember when a cartoon about pillows would be politically innocuous.
ReplyDeleteBut Lindell, the MyPillow guy, changed all that.
I can’t look at this Jumble w/o suspecting a hidden meaning.
Sandy, what do you think is really going on here?!
~ OMK
OMK, I refuse to think of Lindell. Now that you've brought him up, I will say that I can't believe he has the gall to keep doing ads, and including politically-tinged remarks in them. Yucckk!
ReplyDelete"Kismet"
ReplyDeleteSpring is a sporty season
to practice for a good reason.
So Mandy studied the manual
for the race, an event that was annual.
She wanted to be limber and ready
but she was already anxious and sweaty.
Then the sponsor went out of business
and that ended her work on fitness.
The cancellation was abrupt
and did all her plans disrupt.
Yet now suddenly spring became cozier
and Mandy's spirits were rosier.
Her spring was now easy and free
and she was joyful to a whole new degree.
Well, I'm in good company anyway, with Misty--me with my tribute to Mr. Claus and the winter, and she with her ode to spring and a different breed of athlete.
ReplyDeleteBoth our models are limber and sweaty, although we must give it to the old guy for getting the job done.
I like the title, "Kismet," but I am unsure how it applies to Mandy, or to her particular "fate."
Was she somehow "destined" to lose her sponsor?
Or was it that she was "meant" to be happy & free of her race obligations?
Was there a genie behind the scenes, manipulating the events? (I mean, in addition to Misty!)
~ OMK
Nice comments, Ol' Man Keith, thank you for those.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what powers arranged for the sponsor to go out of business, and who is therefore behind Mandy's good luck in not having to compete in the race. But she clearly felt that some spirit was looking after her and worked to make her happy--and she could be right!
(Won't go into my own return to religion, when Rowland was saved from a potentially terrible fate after he had his stroke. I was able to still have seven lovely years with him, for both of us, in spite of his disability. I still say a daily prayer of thanksgiving for that gift).
