The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

  1. We're deep in winter cold and snow,
But, ere long, that all shall go.
Winter yield to spring's green shoots,
Trees and flowers, with the sun in cahoots!

We'll look out the window at a topaz sky,
Hear songbirds singing their sweet lullaby.
New life has won, dead winter has passed,
Here comes Easter, a new bonnet on each lass!

Our world circles round, the seasons parade.
Spring takes its turn, in hope all arrayed!
Never mind snowflakes, each flower in bloom
Is unique, one and only, dispelling gloom!

  3. The Perfect Jewel

She yielded to the teardrop topaz in the window.
“It matches my bonnet perfectly!” she cooed.
“It’s won my heart—the only consummate ‘Bingo’!”
She wouldn’t have diamond or pearl—nothing so crude.

She’d intended to resist all my offers from Bulgari,
But she couldn’t say No to a “Smoky Pendant” fairy.

  4. "Loving Gifts"

For her birthday he wrote her a sonnet
and gave her an Easter bonnet,
plus a ring with a stone of topaz,
and a record with her favorite jazz.

    The gifts his love revealed
    and made her affection yield,
and she clearly let him know
that her love now had a window.
He'd won his place as her one and only
    and would never again
    need to feel lonely.

  5. Misty’s guy plies his girl
    in a whirl,
    with a basketful
    of love transactional…

& Thank you, Owen for reminding us how the seasons
    give us reasons
    to find joy.

    You write with sentiment
    that doesn’t cloy
    but as a celebrant*.

  6. I think the first stanza works better this way:

She wouldn’t have diamonds or pearls—nothing so crude,
but she yielded to the teardrop topaz in the window.
“It matches my bonnet perfectly!” she cooed.
“It’s won my heart,” she whispered, “Bingo!

  7. You're right, Ol' Man Keith--you're a better poet, and you know it!

  8. P.S. I mean, who else would think of rhyming WINDOW with BINGO?

  9. Misty, don't let him gaslight you. Your verse is just as good, and says something different, so shouldn't be comparable anyway.

  10. Thank you for your kind support, Owen.

  11. Chet thought "It will be a feather in my bonnet
If along with a present for Lois perhaps write a sonnet."
In the window he saw a locket of topaz with a silvery chain
Nothing's too dear for his one and only, her love to obtain.

To show that she's his one love - no playing the field
Jewelry and poetry sublime would her love for him yield

  12. Will you be posting Chet's poem?
And how did Lois react? Dying to know!

  13. Been at the VA all day, physical therapy for my back and shoulder - the latter an old sports injury recently awoken . Then again this class of 44(right Misty?) are no spring chickens

Nice poetry by all concerned and I agree that we have different styles in here. I just noticed Misty and I milled alike today.

And hope springs eternal if we all can just use our imagination(Florida's about to freeze next week)

  14. Yes, Wilbur, we really were on the same wavelength in our poems today--a neat coincidence. And you too built the Jumble words into Chet's message.
Take good care of your back and shoulder--it's good that you're getting therapy.

  15. Owen, I fear you’re misreading what’s been posted.
No one is making comparisons, and no one is disrespecting my friend Misty’s verses.
On other occasions, critiques have been invited, but that doesn’t apply to today.

  16. Nice to see Chet’s generosity, Wilbur, in both jewelry and poems. His heart is pounding in the right places for his Lois.
Now, as Sandy is suggesting, it would be fun to see his sonnet.
