The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

  1. A near Spoonerism for a title…

    ”Appalling Vices”

    Their silky facade
is feigned. This cartel group loves
    deadly finales.

  2. "Great Show"

    The star of the group
    wore a silky loop
    at the show's finale,
    which caused fans to rally.

    They met on the quad
cheering in front of the facade.
    The performance ended a crisis
    of falling ticket prices.
Now things were no longer a mess,
with the theater group a success.

  3. So my problem is that I can see the cartoon on the Tribune site, but not here, and that site isn't showing me any blanks for the solution. What a pickle!

I can, however, do what I presume is today's Wordle.

    Wordle 312 3/6

    🟩⬜⬜⬜⬜
    🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

That doesn't look like what happened: one letter right the first guess, three the second guess and all five the third.

  4. I guess the Wordle site isn't recirding my statistics,so I'm apoarently still not getting the ful website?

    Clearly I need a new computer/tablet.

  5. Misty ~ Glad you found time before your class today.
Your poem is a J-success, covering all the bases. Although the references are pretty obscure, the rhythm & rhymes work smoothly for me.
    Have a great class!

Sandy ~ I wish I knew how to bring the whole Jumble here, complete with visuals & blanks to fill. Let’s hope our Owen can get his hands back on the controls.
I did try one Wordle this morning via the N.Y. Times.
You beat me by a mile. Although I got 3 letters in the right place on my 2nd try, it took me a total of 5 (14 minutes) to succeed. The word was slightly obscure, Biblical.
    No wasted letters, but still….
    Not much fun.

  6. Oh, here’s my sad result.
I mis-stated above: I got 3 correct letters on my 2nd go, but didn’t move them to the right place until my 3rd try.

  7. I’ll join the group again today , and hopefully this will not be my finale.
Behind my facade, I am actually using DH’s Jumble answers for a silky finish to my prose.
But it has been shown today that my WORDLE skills were falling.

  8. Well, chalk up another one for needing five tries to get Wordle today !

Yesterday, my best guesses came down to either exist or HEIST. I tried exist first.

Today it was also a tossup in choosing from two very close words that were only different with the last letter. I again chose the wrong word first (in row 4).

I turned off "High Contrast" mode in the settings today. My yellow and green look fine here, but when I play the game, the hues are quite different.

  9. Aha, Sandy!
    Clearly, you are the Champ!
    The Champion of the Wordle!

And CanadianEh! gets a prize for her Jumble inclusivity.

  10. OMK, then you can say that you have successfully solved Wordle 100% of the time !

Sandy, congrats on solving Wordle in 3 rows today. BTW, if you have your browser settings for Incognito Mode or Private Window, then the game records (statistics) won't be saved on your computer.

Also, I did a search on "daily jumble" and plated it at the USA Today.
    https://games.usatoday.com/games/amu-jumble
On the USA Today page, the vertical scroll bar is at the extreme right of the screen.

One of the other links that was found with that search was the Chicago Tribune site.
    https://fun.chicagotribune.com/game/tca-jumble-daily
On the Chicago Tribune page, the vertical scroll bar is about 2/3rds of the way to the right.

Both pages required that I scroll down to get to the blanks where the cartoon's answer goes in. Hope that helps.

  11. CHANCES are...
pretty damn good you're gonna solve a Wordle in at least five tries.
If you take care not to repeat any of the loser letters and--
    exercise reasonable anagrammatical skill.
I mean, we know we have only 26 letters in the English alphabet, and we'll have covered 25 of them in five levels.
    Duh.

I guess there's a simple pleasure in playing with the house odds on OUR side--for once.
And sometimes (like with Sandy) we can do better than five.

  12. OMK, that's not true if you are playing the game in Hard Mode. In Hard Mode, you cannot "use up" 25 letters in 5 rows.

See my comments about Wordle Easy and Hard modes in the April 24th Jumble comments at 1:49 to understand the difference.

Note the * next to CanadianEh!'s score today. The * means that she plays in Hard Mode.

You can change the game from Easy to Hard in Settings.

  14. Finished my class, and finally looked at your intriguing verse, OMK. Vices are appalling, aren't they? Just wish I knew what the cartel's vices were? As always, your economy dazzled me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Misty ~ I would guess that my cartel's vices are revealed in their deadly finales.
The usual trafficking for such cartels is with drugs--perhaps one more layer of vice.

I wonder what you're referring to with that "silky loop." Is it a sly reference to the new Broadway musical, A Strange Loop?

TTP ~ Thanks. I wonder if the Hard Mode was created when folk figured it to be so easy.
I suppose I'll have to look up this Hard Mode; I just played the "hand I was dealt."

OMK threw me off with "Biblical " remark. I suppose could be considered so. I was thinking 'goest', 'shalt' doeth etc

TTP, glad you got the can of green beans right, bravo.

I wonder what Chet and Lois are doing

The dots above are the positions of blank squares, the dashes are circles. The final solution is one word with 13 letters.

  19. Keith, if you can, could you copy the above and add it to tomorrow 's blog?

  20. In my panic to post today, and my preoccupation with WORDLE, I arrived here to see that OMK must have had trouble sharing the Jumble today. So I will ascend into this pulpit from yesterday to share my results. No time to lounge around as I need to do my grocery shopping and stow my zesty cargo in my pantry.
