The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
Background: A fine source of topaz is Killiecrankie Bay on Flinders Island, south of Melbourne.
ReplyDelete”Island Concoction
(A gem for Mother’s Day)”
My shiny topaz,
infused with golden floe / lends
Mom’s locket a glow.

Very nice haiku today, OMK. I solved last night so J's were familiar but #1 is tricky and re. #4...
A poem from the past
Wager,Often,Locket,Luxury; Totally wrong
---------
I'm not often wrong and this time I'm surely right
But that locket, I'll wager, is a luxury that took a bite
Out of your savings. If it was me I'd be weeping.
This gal of yours must be surely worth keeping.
That was pre Chet and Lois but as I recall Chet gave Lois a locket on her sober anniversary

OK, let's revisit C&L and the gem

_yield, topaz, window, bonnet, "won" and only.
-----------
Chet thought "It will be a feather in my bonnet
If along with a present for Lois perhaps he'd write a sonnet .
In the window he saw a locket of topaz with a silvery chain
Nothing's to dear for his one and only, her love to obtain.
To show that she's his one and only - no playing the field
Jewelry and poetry sublime would her love for him yield

Leave,Batty,Shroud,Attain;
Attested to
[The 'sonnet']
If you should ever leave, my love, I'd be shrouded in grief.
For attaining that love seemed batty, seemed beyond belief
This locket is testimony of my undying love and affection
I humbly attest "In you there's not the slightest imperfection "
Love Chet
I just realized #1 was also in there
DeleteAnd now to C&L
ReplyDeleteAs chet gazed at the shiny locket on Lois' breast
He was infused with courage, ready to stand any test
He'd bought that topaz at auction, money He couldn't afford
He'd not remain silent, his vow to Lois he'd keep at any accord
[He thought]
"I'll marry her and cherish her forever even if she's my half sister
That's my final word on the matter, you gotta problem Mister?"

Questions At the Silent Auction:
ReplyDeleteIs that locket with the topaz stone set in genuine gold,
Or infused with shiny fool’s gold known as pyrite?
Will I be an unwilling donor to a scam
Or a triumphant owner of a valuable gem?
"Gift Uplift"
ReplyDeleteThe shiny topaz did infuse
the silent auction with much good news.
Tom bought it and put it in his pocket,
planning to place it in a locket
that his love would treasure as a gift,
and would her spirits greatly lift.

Woohoo indeed Misty.
ReplyDeleteAnd some nice locket gifts being purchased.
Thanks for the background info on topaz OMK.
Threesomes all around, eh? What a happy Wordle day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminiscences, Wilbur. Good for you, keeping close tabs on your inventory, I mean your poetic repertory!
Misty Your poem takes me back. Reminds me of the little doggie who...
"picked it up and
(also) put it in his pocket!"

CanadianEh! ~ I see you not only covered all the J-words and solution,
ReplyDeleteBUT
you also included the Wordle answer
AND
(as if that weren't more than enough)
you threw in a word from today's Corner

How neat, Ol' Man Keith--I never thought of that shiny topaz as a fallen star! It would comfort a rainy day in your pocket, wouldn't it?
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely verses today, I hardly know where to begin.
I'll start at the beginning, with warm thanks for your sweet Mother's Day poem, OMK.
Father's Day is coming up, the first one for me with 93 year old Dad gone. But how lovely to continue to celebrate our parents.
Wilbur, how kind of Chet to compose a lovely sonnet for Lois about giving her a locket of topaz. Will look forward to her response.
Then down to earth with CanadianEh!'s poetic question about the authenticity of jewelry. Wonder if any women actually get their topaz engagement rings evaluated?
Exciting and busy Jumble blog morning. Thank you all!
Yes OMK, the stars aligned and gave me words that could be combined fairly easily today.
ReplyDeleteWC- we love Chet & Lois!
Misty- thinking of you with Father’s Day coming. The firsts after a loved one’s death are especially hard.
