The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.
Curious news. I got a series of e-mails telling me posts from this blog had been deleted. Most of April and some of May. --! 2019 !--

ReplyDeleteAnd what gives them any authority over your site?
Maybe it’s some random trolling. Did you go back and check those dates?

Today’s opener:
“The Sage of Prime (says..)”
Infant sheep follow
Bo Peep. Lambs find no stigma
gouging well-worn trails.
I thought my opening haiku yesterday was one of my best.
I thought it strange to receive no response to it.
Ah, well. Such is the ephemerality of art…
It was intended as a tribute to my dear old guppy.
Here’s a follow-up:
He was all alone
after his mates departed.
Then he blew bubbles.

Not hard to solve the Jumble though.
Re. Blogger stupidity. The censoring is done by AI and is triggered by certain words.
Chet and Lois didn't start until 5/6/21.
2019?????
We can live with that.

"Family Debt"
ReplyDeleteThe family had an enigma:
how did they get such a stigma?
Did they gouge buying a herd of sheep
because they were so cheap?
Did they rant rather than chant
when their daughter had an infant?
What of all those funds they were amassing
as a result of their uncle's passing?
It is time for them to make a will
and pay everyone their dues with a bill.
Wordle luck today. I had one vowel correct and WAGged the correct answer on the third guess!

Is anyone else experiencing weird and scary weather this morning?
ReplyDeleteWhen I got up and started working on the Jumble, it was sunny outside.
Then when I went to my study to get on the computer, it started to thunder,
and it is still thundering right now at 8:41 in the morning. There are clouds in the sky but some of the sky is blue. Then about ten minutes or so ago some rain came down and stopped after just a few minutes. I've never experienced weather like this before on a morning in late June in Laguna Beach, California. The thunder is less loud, but I'm hearing some right now as I sign off at 8:45 AM.
Prose today- no rhymes.
ReplyDeleteThe infant with a birthmark grew to hate it with the passage of time.
Unfortunately he was led like a sheep to a shady plastic surgeon,
who promised to remove the stigma,
but gouged him with an awful job and an exorbitant price.
P.S. It's now 8:48 AM (even though the time posted below is always an hour ahead), and we just had a moment of sunshine again.
ReplyDeleteMisty- see my Corner post re our severe thunderstorm warning for today here in faraway Canada!

Never in my memory have I experienced such loud Thunder. It startled us awake, and it didn’t sound or feel natural.
ReplyDeleteI was sure it was an explosion—a plane crash or blown ammunition storage.
The sun was shining. The initial “Kee-rack!” lasted several seconds, the better part of a minute. Then, as I was staring into the daylight, a heavy rain pelted down. It seemed as if the words “cloud burst” were being demonstrated.
Follow-up flashes and thunder moved farther away. The sky is darker now. I suppose there is nothing too strange about all this, except for its nearness and suddenness. I guess I’ve just been sheltered until now.
I reckon with weather like this, the story of my li’l guppy can’t amount to a hill o’ beans…

Misty ~ I think your poem’s family are finding their karma out of whack.
(Maybe they’re responsible for our weather…?)
CEh! ~ Sorry to be reminded of such awful, unscrupulous MDs out there.
Clearly in violation of the Hippocratic oath.
(I can’t imagine we’re sharing the same weather front.
Or are we?)
~ OMK
Sorry, Wilbur ~ I didn’t mean to leave you out. You seem to have a better feeling for the kind of algorithm that generates the message Owen reported.
ReplyDeleteI think you did OK with the Wordle. Good for you.
I didn’t do it today ‘cuz I saw the answer.
My guess is that it would be easier if you found a “w” early on.
~ OMK
Ol' Man Keith, did you not see my post this morning, about 45 minutes before yours, telling everybody about that incredible thunder and even quick rain we had here in SoCal this morning on what started as a sunny day? I've never experienced anything like this. (Sorry, just saw in your post above, your reference to "our weather").
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved your delightful haiku this morning, and checked and you incorporated all the Jumble words and solution. At first I thought you missed "gouge," but no, there it was. Very cute haiku, I really liked it.
Wilbur, hope Chet and Lois come back some day.
CanadianEh!, sorry I missed your lovely non-rhyming verse this morning and saw it just now. I wouldn't say it was entirely not rhyming because the 'time' and 'price' of your first and last line have the same vowel sound, and the 'surgeon' and 'stigma' of your second and third line start with the same consonant. All this makes your morning offering very poetic!
ReplyDeleteAnd what a sad little story about the poor baby getting its birthmark removed by that horrible surgeon. I should think about the idea of converting sentimental topics into their opposite--a lot of my poems could use that.
When I signed in to our dashboard page just now, this was at the top of the page

I checked, and all recent posts are okay, so this must be referring to those 2019 pages,
I definitely saw your post about our weird weather, Misty. I had it before me as I was writing my own description.
ReplyDeleteI was completely amazed by the scale of those thunderous peals.
I guess I was disappointed too, that Nature was taking focus away from my li'l guppy, this morning for sure--and by pulling attention away from my opening haiku tribute yesterday.
I just felt I owed more to Li'l Garlick.
The upside today is that ALL the regulars have checked in!
WooHoo! Happy First Full Day of Summer!
~ OMK
I do the jumble daily but do not comment often. They were my first word puzzles and generally bring me a smile. Your comments also are fun. Yesterday I had a totally miserable day with doctors and appointments. Since I solve wordle starting each day with a word from my life I picked AWFUL and there it was, the silver lining in a bad day. Enjoy all.

Not sure how to read your Wordle comment, Wilbur.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought you meant you tried AWFLY for your next-to-last attempt, but that would properly be AWFULLY, and in any case that would not place the “U” in a green position.
And AWFUY is no word.
So what did you mean?
