  1. FLN (Thurs) Misty ~ You may have got it indeed--my proud lil' Spooner, I mean--
because you recognized that it involved the words of that Jumble solution.
Yes, it was a play on "In Plain Sight."
But those three little words morphed into the two words of the title--
    "Insane Plight"--
    to complete the Spoonerism.

Perhaps the change from 3 to 2 words escaped visual recognition.
You just need to sound it out.

  2. Fln Misty, I had in mind "Lefty" Grove the great Philadelphia Athletics pitcher who finished his career with the Redsox

But there was another immortal Lefty more infamous than famous

    Thursday, 11/24/21
    Brash,Hitch,Uncork,Inland;
    Thanks a bunch
    ---------
I have fond memories of Thanksgiving back when I was a child
Uncle Lefty, Sprockett that is, would come to the house for lunch
Dad told me, "Lefty was not only brash but equally was wild"
When he uncorked a beauty his coach"d say, "Thanks a bunch!"

"He'd hitched on with a team inland from Bangor
Everywhere he pitched the result was anguish and rancor
Did he indeed get a cup of coffee in the Bigs? Boston perchance
But brash and wild are not ingredients for success in the Big Dance"

    Or the more lengthy version....

tibia, would, utmost, hopper, put up with it.

Wherever Lefty played he'd be embroiled in deep intrigue
In '98 he pitched in a fast upstate Double-A Maine league
One day a quick one-hopper glanced off his tibia bone
Lefty gave out a whelp of pain and fell down like a stone

Lefty did his utmost to pitch and play in pain
But it'd be a month or more before he'd pitch again
Thus it was no surprise to see him drinking heavily again
A jug of wine in one arm, in the other a fifth of gin.

"From what side does Sprockett throw, that rummy?"
"He's a Lefty, so his Port side you dummy?"
"Is Sprockett the fastest pitcher you ever saw?"
"Do I fear that bum?. That souse? pshaw!"

And so new baseball lexicon was born in the Bangor Bulletin
And the wilds of Maine will surely never see his like again.
Meanwhile the Bangor manager was throwing a fit
"That bum better sober up, I won't put up with it!"

suede, bliss, feline, shroud, beside herself.
    ----------
Lefty's origins are shrouded in mystery
Ask him and he'll tell you story after story
"I was a teammate at the Cross* of Sockalexis"
The Truth: He saw him once at practice.

He'll persuade you he was a master of feline cunning
His outrageous lies were absolutely stunning
Stories and lies he'd be blissfully crafting
But hearing them I was beside myself laughing
*Holy Crosz in Worcester where Sockalexis began his immortal ways. Sockalexis went on to pkay for the Cleveland Spiders who changed the name to Indians in honor of Sockalexis

cameo, soupy, injure, stanza, pass time.
Lefty had an air of nonchalance, a certain savoir faire
Unusual in this broken-down, bush league borough
On in age, tired arm, but his look said "I've been there"
But truth be told his stay in the Bigs was just a cameo.

"If I'd not been injured, I'd've shown 'em all a thing or two
The ol' soup bone just needed oiling up, now it's feeling fine"
But the last Stanza of the anthem was barely through
'Fore opposing batters were driving balls on the line.

The manager trudged out to the mound to make the call
"If I leave you in any longer I'll be charged a baseball crime
Your fastball's flat, your curves are straight, just give me the ball"
And from the stands came the sad words "Busher, you've passed your time!"

  3. Interesting allocation and verecundiam FLN

All three were cooking between OMK 's haiku, Misty's Frank verse and a clever poem from C-Eh with the revealing couplet

I was away all day and at 9pm tackled the devilish Saturday xword- more on that at CC

Nice to see OMK grok'ed my GROVE hint and of course C-eh 's was perfectly obscure and revealing at the same time

  5. I love your spoonerisms, Ol' Man Keith, and will look forward to more of them as we go along.

My goodness, Wilbur, your "immortal lefty" just exploded into a whole medley of verses this morning--one after another, after another. I'm just amazed that you have the energy to produce such intricate and interesting poetic narratives. I'll work on my response to this great production of yours when I have a little more time later on--but thank you for this gift this morning.

  6. "Cooking Lesson"

    Lucy felt very lucky
she didn't eat a cake that was yucky.
She was thankful she has a knack
to avoid food that was off the track,
and she hated the chef's yackety-yak.

She tried to teach him a new recipe medley
and hoped it would improve his cooking steadily.
And it worked: he began to be more factual
and produced food whose safety was actual.

Now Lucy again enjoys his dinner,
and feels her project was a winner.

  7. Thanks to WC for sharing so very much of his great storage of the stuff of legends!
His knowledge & love of baseball (among his great fondness for American sport) is impressive indeed. From bush leagues to the majors, he covers them all!
And thanks to for sharing his Wordle pitch…

    Today’s Jumble haiku:

    ”Rackety Jack”

    Jack’s got an actual
    knack, making yucky medleys—
    his so-called “mix tapes.”

  8. Misty ~ Your Lucy has a most unusual arrangement with her chef, treating him less as a master of his craft but more as her pupil.
She seems distrustful of his own recipes (ones accompanied by some kind of yackety-yak spiel) because they are unusual & unsafe.
Ah, but when she brings him around to her own “medley,” he shows he can shape up and produce acceptable dishes.
Perhaps Lucy is a major food critic, and is now willing to reward him with at least one star!

  9. Where are you on this Saturday, CanadianEh!? We miss you on the weekends.

  10. So, OMK, do Jack's knacks include making medleys of snacks? Or just a bunch of barmbracks? Or is this just a talent that he lacks?

Hey, any chance of getting a Wordle clue this morning? I'd love to try one.

  11. Busy day. I’ll try to get back later.
    Concert tonight.
Wordle was different. Nice work in three OMK

  13. Jack just does tunes.
    He's into musical balloons
    (not forks or spoons).

    Nary a snack
    for Jack,
    neither scones
    nor macaroons.

  14. But Misty, you got it,
    that's what's real.
    You came out a winner;
    that's how you must feel.

    Moil & endurance--
    that's what puts the seal
on the effort you put in
    to keep an even keel.

In the end we all must kneel
in honor of such fine zeal.

  15. By the way,
won't you also leave a clue
    for those passers by
    who may be following you?

    Maybe just a little "spill"
    to help someone
    who lacks your skill?
    ~ OMK
