Today’s Jumble haiku:
ReplyDelete(Some saints are recognized by the “natural scars” or stigmata they bear.
Sometimes the marks are not easily discerned.)
(A Barely) ”Tenable Venerable”
Her stigma is vague—
like flesh-ink infused tats that
scarce climb into view.
~ OMK
He was full of himself, it was plain.
ReplyDeleteEgo had consumed his brain.
Any thought was of self,
Defined by his wealth,
Yet he denied any claim he was vain!
Tod was a man with ambition;
ReplyDeleteHe would climb to the top of the heap!
To hard knocks he'd paid his tuition,
And the lessons he'd learned were not cheap!
His goal he knew was tenable;
Not just a vague pie in the sky.
His manners would be amenable;
Banter infused with wit that was wry.
His past was a stigma to society.
The price for acceptance was high.
He must forego poker games with his buddies
To take up golfing! My oh my!
"Tidy Task"
ReplyDeleteKen found it tenable to climb
a ladder to his roof,
where he could clean up all the grime
and fix tiles that were loose.
His folks were surprised to hear this news
which sounded vague, like an enigma,
they needed facts to help infuse
Ken's task without a stigma.
Then when they got proof
they all did cheer,
and rewarded Ken
with a case of beer.
A new acrostic from Owen, followed by a three stanza ode to "Tod"...
ReplyDeleteTrading poker for golf is Tod's way of moving up in his "heap." Various corporate cultures require different sorts of gamesmanship.
Without the right game, one might as well have no game at all.
~ OMK
I wonder, Misty, if "Ken" plays golf.
ReplyDeleteOr is he a poker shark?
Unlike "Tod," his ambition seems limited to family affairs. Fixing that roof is the top of his particular heap--and beer is a top reward!
Oh, for the simple life!
~ OMK
Zen Table
ReplyDeleteClimb the mountain to meditate,
Where heady aromas of incense-infused air emanate,
Release the stigma of anxiety with an “AAH”.
No vague claims for this Spa!
Ach! How could I have missed the acrostic in Owen’s marvellous W poem. I saw all the definitions and clues, but missed that until OMK pointed it out.
ReplyDeleteAnd then a Jumble verse about Tod that is a masterful lesson in how to incorporate the J words into a marvellous poem.
OMK- I loved your take on the J reveal in your title. I went a different direction by splitting the word.
But once again, you got all the J words into a powerful haiku.
Misty- what a story about poor Ken, on the roof, but being doubted and demeaned. I’m glad he was rewarded with that case of beer (as long as he doesn’t go up on the roof again after drinking it!).
WC- we tied at Wordle today. Tricky one.
CEh! ~
ReplyDeleteWell wrought: an honest spa's ad!
No false claims; the work is entirely the customers' department, as they must do all the climbing & inhaling.
I liked your title. It is not always easy, coming up with a clever title and then matching it to the poem's theme.
My hardest job was figuring out how to create a scarcely viewable stigma, but flesh colored tattoo ink should do it.
~ OMK
Ol' Man Keith, I like that her tats are almost invisible, in that lovely haiku with all the J words and solution. I don't know if Ken plays golf--I'll have to ask him. But I hope so since he clearly needs some time away from family chores.
ReplyDeleteI wish Tod could figure out his own desires and ambitions and not just pay the high price for acceptance, Owen. Hope he has a better future than it seems at the moment.
Actually, CanadianEh!, maybe you could get Owen to encourage Tod to learn how to meditate at the Zeb table. That might be a wonderful solution for his needs. And, yes, I'll talk to Ken about taking it easy with that case of beer.
And now on to the Wordle, encouraged by Wilbur and CanadianEh!.
