I know snow intimately from many years living in the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts as well as other locales in New England. But, fortunately, the current blasts of winter in California can’t quite reach us in SoCal.
Only in nearby mountain ranges are the people contending with surprising blizzards. Down here by the sea we rarely get more than weaker Santa Ana winds and rain storms. It’s one of the reasons for choosing to live here in retirement.

Thank you, thank you for your wonderful poem—in response to my opener of yesterday. It was a delightful surprise and much appreciated.

And Misty ~ Thank you for your comment, as well.

  2. Today’s Jumble haiku:
    ”Bless (What I’ve) Drawn”

    Strings of poker hands
    in the Jackpot Rodeo
    show ace-high aspects.

  3. Everything that we do now
We do because we have to.
    Let us give ear
    To latent fears,
And claim what we are due!

  4. Pecos Bill was a hurricane,
Rode a tornado to gain his fame!
Thought that the rodeo was lame!

One winter the weather was so cold,
Pecos Bill had an icicle on his nose.
Poked up the fire, cause the flame was froze!

One aspect of his life that had a lack
Was romancing, he just hadn't the knack,
Till Slue-Foot Sue came down the track!

Now Slue-Foot Sue was a game big girl,
So she decided to give Bill a whirl
From the sole of his boots to his top-most curl!

    Pecos Bill proposed that spring,
But he didn't have a diamond ring,
So he tied the knot with a piece of string.

Word got around, so the press was on it.
"Bill And Sue Are Going To Be Honest!"
In front of an Elvis their vows they promised!

  6. OKL- glad you don’t have the nasty weather in your area.
I am pleased to have brought a smile to your day off.

Busy day today. I may be back later.

  7. "Bad Betting"

    Bill was a fearless broker
who each financial aspect did inspect.
In his spare time he played poker,
but still did his money protect.

One day on a rodeo he did bet
and against all odds did press.
He lost, and his string of betting
    created a sizeable mess.

    This obliged Bill to confess
that he had to start betting less.

I understand it may be fiction

that Bill fell for gambling’s seduction,

    and he can’t resist addiction.

At least he chose “Harm Reduction.”

    I knew you meant me,

  9. Ol' Man Keith, your haiku seems to have the same reaction to the J solution as I did: if you have to PRESS on in gambling, ask for a BLESSing. And then, in your kind verse in response to mine, you confirm that Bill is looking for a blessing in "Harm Reduction." Pretty good morality for starting the week, I think.

Owen, your long verse amazed me so much that I had to look up Pecos Bill, because I didn't remember anything about him although the name rang a bell. Bit of a relief that he turned out to be a fictional character, but you give his life the wonderful ending he deserved, his lucky marriage to a girl who was an even better gambler than he was: Slue-Foot Sue. Delightful poem that made me smile--many thanks!

We miss your poetry, CanadianEh!, but glad you and Wilbur made cool Wordles.

  10. I Could Do Worse

    After a string of wins,
My poker prowess is not suspect.
But I must confess my sins,
And not forget an important aspect.
I just press on my bot
    To calculate my bet.

This is not my first rodeo!

  11. Owen- great poem about Pecos Bill. I had to work very hard to find the J words . . . and you used some CW entries from today too.
I must confess that I can’t find the W in your first poem?

OMK- I am impressed that you managed to get a title from the J answer - “Drawn” with the poker association was great. Again, I am amazed at your ability to get all the J words into a haiku.

Misty- I managed to make it back here. You and Owen both had heroes named Bill. Your Bill got himself into a mess with betting (maybe he needs my bit). WC may say that betting, like alcohol, may require total abstinence, not just betting less (or harm reduction).
My poker player may have been looking for a blessing also, as he was confessing.
I loved all the different words that we both found to rhyme with aspect.

  12. Great you arrived with your poem, CanadianEh!. As usual, a bit of realism from you--gambling realism today. Had to look up the word "bot" which seems to be popping up everywhere these days. Gather its either a robot, or a device worked into communication technology. Hope one never visits my computer, or yours.
