ReplyDeleteToday’s Jumble haiku:
The Geography Game: When you score 10,000, it lights up with the California motto and the image of a gold nugget.
In 2nd place, you get “North to the Future!” and a shot of an Alaskan Malamute.
(If you’re not up to speed,
don’t expect to succeed.
If you try, but don’t lead,
you’ll likely… )
“… Get a Breed”
Arcades offer games
in all tempi. Can you guess
which glows, “Eureka!”?

FLN- thanks Misty. I enjoyed your poem also. Advice column? Maybe we should. There are a lot of years of wisdom here.
ReplyDeleteWC- great to see how Chet and Lois are doing.
A newby at the fair decides to try his luck, determined to win a prize, not for the fun of it, but for . . .
ReplyDeleteGreed I Bet
What do I know about arcade games?
Diddley squat!
I guess at the names
And do what I ought.
The tempo may be slow or fast,
But I hold out to the last.
Eureka! I won!
OMK- that’s the California motto? I was thinking of the city in the CW the other day. What does this Canadian know?! Great imaginative haiku with a good backstory and another poem.
ReplyDeleteVery educational.
"Pet Bet"
ReplyDeleteAnnie finally agreed
with her friend to visit an arcade,
where coins to play she did need
but little money she made.
To her friend she had once confessed
that if she were not in debt,
she would love to have a pet.
"Eureka!" he no longer had to guess
how he could help her out of her mess.
In a quick tempo he bought her a pet,
with insurance used to pay a vet,
and the couple are now happily wed.
Misty- your Annie played those arcade games too, but not for greed. (I loved your use of agreed!)
ReplyDeleteToo bad she got herself into debt, but her friend got her a pet. Now they are living happily ever after - I just hope her new husband keeps her away from arcades.
You had some interesting rhyme schemes today (but who am I to judge when I don’t even rhyme half the time!).
Misty ~ A typo?
ReplyDeleteDid you mean to say your happy couple got ”wet?
~ OMK
But seriously, Misty, I’m glad your Annie overcame her hesitancy & joined her pal in arcade gaming.
ReplyDeleteShe may have sought financial remuneration for her time spent there, but she scored the pet, which is what she really wanted all the time.
(You remind me, too, that we’re going to look into medical insurance for our new dog!)

CanadianEh! ~ Yes, “Eureka!” (“I found it!”) is our state motto, an outcry to honor the gold rush that boosted our population (the Anglo portion) enough to ensure statehood. The Greek word is also used to name communities—and for a variety of other brandings. It is ascribed originally to Archimedes who is said to have shouted it in his bath, when he saw how his body displaced a like volume of water (he was searching for a way to measure the volume of a gold crown).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, back to your poem, which I enjoyed. I, too, know little of the arcade. Things changed radically in the years since, as a kid, I dared to peep in a penny-peep show & witnessed “Little Egypt” dancing!
But I hear things, and that emboldened me to create my Geography Game. I am glad you liked my backstory and double poem.
Your poem speaks of your persistence, which matters a lot in video games, puzzles to be solved, games of chance, and indeed in many walks of life. You deserve those Eureka moments!
~ OMK
I loved the way your poem titles played with the 'pedigree' solution to our Jumble, OMK and CE!! Both of yours are really funny today.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, getting an Alaskan Malamute wouldn't be a bad idea if you end up in second place, Keith. And getting your pup some medical insurance seems like a great idea.
Woohoo! CanadianEh!! You won! Congratulations!
