  1. Batman and his nemesis
    Found that they could coexist
    For poker nights
    With guys in tights,
And fifty-four cards in their midst.

  2. Today’s Jumble haiku:
(Are dogfish ever part of a sushi diet? If so, it might depend on their age if they were to be identified as posted below on the price list of the trendy theater’s lobby stand.
Let’s check in. Their current show, a farce, was winding down at the end of the first act.
    It was time for intermission…)

Pups & Hounds on the Menu”

    The parody ground
    to a halt. Twine-tied fuka-
    zasushi
    now served!

  3. Owen - great references to the W in your poem.
I think WC was playing that game at guess five.

  4. Alps and Dunes

The marathon covered all types of ground,
With obstacles everywhere to be found,
A pair of debut runners on the mound,
(No joke, her friend was racing too).
    Pain would ensue, she knew,
A good merlot wine would be her due.

  5. OMK- what an elaborate and imaginative backstory for your haiku. Is there such a thing as “fukazasushi” or have you invented a new Japanese menu option?

  6. "Writing Plight"

    Ron was quite renowned
as a writer with his feet on the ground.
He rarely came up with a parody,
and jokes from him were a rarity.

He liked sushi and drinking wine
on visits to a nearby town,
and began writing with a different twine,
in a style that was up and down.

This experiment was a daring ploy
that sadly cost him his fame.
But it gave him considerable joy
to produce writing no longer tame.

  7. CanadianEh! ~ Ya could look it up!
The item is real, but I had to reverse the “Z”and the 1st “S” to preserve the J-word spelling.
I admit it’s not easy to find. I think the prefix pertains to a specific diner where the item is on the menu—fish bits served in a little string-tied baggie.

Thanks for appreciating my backstory. Sometimes it takes a while to chase down all the elements.
I like your title! Very creative.
And I admire your runner—willing to take the pain, cuz she’s got her eye on the prize, the pain-ameliorating merlot!

  8. Ooh, Misty ~ that Ron!
Guess he just had to have fun.
Couldn't keep that "different" stuff down.
Thought it safe in another town.
But even though he expanded his radius,
he wasn't smart enough--to use an alias.

  9. Yep, Owen your limerick was a neat poker
at the W-Word, a true broker.
    An honest dig,
    and not a pig!
(Slapping my brow) "What the Fokker!"

WC ~ You were narrowing down on levels 4 and 5, maybe with COKER, TOKER, POKER, or (a racer to "cancel culture"?) WOKER?
