  1. FLN, Misty ~ Thank you for applauding my Sunday poem.
Frankly, I’m surprised (& happy) this one turned out as well as it did. These pieces have an advantage, of course, in being free of the J-word requirement and so can be composed at any time in the preceding week.
But this time I forgot about it, and found myself late Saturday with no poem ready. I cranked it out at the last minute. If you re-read my first line, you’ll see I intended it to be a terse “marker,” a short reminder why you weren’t seeing a piece from me.
It was just luck that I was in a mood to squeeze out a couple of extra stanzas.
I’m pretty sure that sometime(s) in future, I will be leaving only a 2-to-4 line “marker.”

  4. I have used the Wordle and J poem as a mental break for the last five weeks as I accompanied my mother on a hospital journey. She passed on the weekend, and now we are on a different journey. I will read you all, but probably not have time or energy to post much for the next week.

  5. I wonder if, to keep their speedy pace,
The Nina and the Pinta would race?
The one in front might be chagrined
When the one behind blocked their wind.

The lead ship then would have to yield
To the one whose sails made a shield.
Races were just a game between friends
Who shared a course to the same ends.

The Santa Maria, the largest and best
Wouldn't view these races as a pest.
They'd help the smaller ships keep pace
As to the unknown west they'd face.

Each sailor hoped, in view of land
They'd become a wealthy deck hand!

A lot to cope with. I wish you all the best, and hope you're doing ok.

  8. "Worthy Work"

Sidney wanted to be a sailor,
but instead ended up as a tailor.
He made outfits for many friends:
    children's, women's, and men's.
His deliveries were speedy and sealed,
and to all requests he did yield.
In return no friend was a pest
    since he satisfied every request,
and they valued him as the best.

  9. Ol' Man Keith, very clever the way your turned the "pest friends" into "pens fest" and still got all Jumble words worked into your clever haiku! Many thanks!
And your amazing Sunday verses will always be a delightful gift, even if they were only 2-to-4 line markers in the future!

And Owen, you took the Jumble sailor in a whole new directions by having their ships enter a fierce historical competition. Looks like all the sailors will be happy with the outcome.

Sandyanon, nice to see you on the blog. Will you be giving us a rhyme?

  10. My apologies for pretending "a bone in her mouth" is somehow an unusual metaphor for a ship racing through the waves. I know it is often used.
I just needed a context for my haiku to be a prize-winner.

CEh! I am sorry for your rough passage. I hope things will smooth out for you, and that hard events will turn into dear memories. If we can provide diversion--even comfort--we will all feel better for it. Please know there is love for you in our postings.

It was a nice adjustment, Misty, for Sidney to make, to turn to tailoring without harboring resentment that he couldn't go to sea.
But maybe, just maybe, if he expands his tailor shops, franchises them, and becomes wealthy enough, he can buy a share in one of these super-yachts.
Then he can use his vacation time to sail as an Owner!
That should be worth a WooHoo!

  11. OMK, thanks for explaining "a bone in her mouth"-- a phrase totally unfamiliar to me. And congratulations on your nautical prize--well deserved!
And I'll pass your kind comments about my verse on to Sidney! Bet he'll give you a WooHoo!
