Today’s Jumble haiku:
ReplyDelete(The party was crowded.
It was merely a stray push when the reverend was leaning over the buffet table…)
“(His) Grace (was) Less Braced”
The bishop lost his
locket in the salsa. One
shove was all it took.

Angie was her girlhood nick-name,
ReplyDeleteShe had an angle on every game.
Said she had the love
Of a guy above,
But which one she wouldn't name!

Orijinz:
ReplyDeleteWe meet on the level,
We part on the square.
In those words nestle
A load of meaning there.
Every Mason is a good man,
And a peer of all the rest.
They all know where they stand --
On the level with the best.
In their dealings with each other,
And with all the world without,
They are square with honest favor,
They can part, not leaving doubt.
In these plain words nestle
A load of meaning there:
Masons meet upon the level,
Masons part upon the square.
You probably know I'm a proud Freemason, and given this chance to affirm it, a simple l'ick just would not do.

The teenager would do no work at home, but saved her energy for the Saturday night party.
ReplyDeleteLazy Bess
She went out the salsa to dance,
Without a backward glance.
The bishop had blessed her locket,
But she shoved it in her pocket.
Although meant to remind her,
That an angel was behind her,
Bess wanted only to prance.
Owen gives us variations on the W, and then “a guy above”. OMK adds a “gr” variation (but no rhymes to help Misty). (She can probably get the W from my hint.
ReplyDeleteOwen- wonderful tribute to the Masons. I noted the “level” and “ square” reference to masons. With your great clues, I got the Orijinz in 18 seconds.
On to the J:
OMK- the imagery of the bishop’s locket in the salsa brought a smile. Had he been imbibing too much or was it old age that made him so unsteady?
I used the other meaning of salsa.
"Young Love"
ReplyDeleteA bishop married Sam and Sue
while standing on a docket.
Their relationship was still quite new
and he gave her a lovely locket.
Afterwards they happily shared salsa and dips,
and smiled as they ate their chips.
While their marriage was now still on first base
they treated each other with a great deal of grace.
They took everything slow, and did nothing shove,
and after twenty-five years, they are still in love.
Oblivious to her angel, eh?
ReplyDeleteI dunno, CEh, whether the locket behind her thus helped or hindered Bess in her salsa moves.
Aren’t we supposed to dance “like nobody’s watching”?
I liked your neat title.
Heheh. I couldn’t resist shoving his pre-eminence when I saw those words. It was my swiftest piece of the week.
Misty ~ Another happy marriage—for lucky Sam & Sue!
It goes to show that a wedding needn’t be fancy. This one, sealed with salsa & chips, plus a locket, fared far better than many elaborate affairs.
The answer, of course, is found in the “grace” with which they treated each other.
(The only question I have is how—& why—the bishop stood on a docket?!
His calendar, maybe, to remind him of the next wedding he’s gotta scoot to?)
~ OMK
Ol' Man Keith, I enjoyed your verse this morning but sadly couldn't come up with the 'heavenly' solution. Would love another hint or two if you'd be willing to give one.
ReplyDeleteAnd many thanks for your kind comment about my verse. I had a bit of computer trouble this morning and couldn't look up 'docket,' even though I tried. I figured it was a platform on which one stood. But it turns out you're right--it's only a calendar or a list. I guess I confused it with 'dock'. So much for knowing my English, even as a Chancellor's Professor in the field.
And, finally, how is your wife doing on her second day at home? Better and better, I hope.
Owen, I had to laugh that Angie had an angle on every game.
CanadianEh!, Bess doesn't seem a bit lazy to me, given the way she loves prancing and dancing about. But she really should have checked out that angel behind her, shouldn't she, given that locket she had in her pocket.
Hey, we're off to a good weekend, aren't we?
Misty- I smiled at the bishop’s docket, and the salsa and chips wedding feast. But as OMK has noted, a fancy wedding does not necessarily mean a long and happy marriage. It is giving and receiving grace, and not shoving your views and agenda on your spouse.
ReplyDeleteIf you read my W clue, you may be able to identify the heavenly being (plus Bess had one behind her).
Misty ~. You already know the W answer. You wrote it in your note to Owen.
ReplyDeleteAnyway,I can't give you any more rhyming hints because, curiously enough, there are hardly any absolute rhymes for this heavenly creature.
It does surprise me sometimes how you show the world you KNOW the answer but will not let yourself acknowledge it.
Janice was feeling lots better yesterday. She is sleeping in today.
Thank you for checking on her.
~ OMK
Owen ~ I really like your "Level/square" piece. Very much so.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad was a Mason. I didn't know much about that side of his life. Sadly, as I grew up, he became deeply depressed and a "self-medicating alcoholic."
We lived on opposite sides of the country, and every time I visited him, he was either wasted or, if sober (trying to get off the stuff), silent--really unable to speak.
He died young--only 57. I was surprised and impressed at the enormous attendance at the funeral the Masons gave for him.
~ OMK
Ol' Man Keith, I'm so glad that Janice is feeling better and getting some good sleep today. That's great news. But sorry to hear the story about your Dad. That must have been really sad for you as a boy.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for finally helping me resolve the heavenly being that ended your haiku. Growing up as a Catholic, divine beings were familiar to me, and I often prayed to them to protect me. It must have worked, because I had a pretty quiet life, and I still have a good life with many healthy and happy angles.
Owen, I'm glad you had a good experience with Masons, as your verse suggests.
CanadianEh!, I loved your story of Bess's delightful Saturday night party. And I'm glad that the angel produced by her blessed locket protected her and looked after her.
So nice to hear about the good things we had in our lives. Looking forward to a good Sunday tomorrow.
