"Relatives"
ReplyDeleteThe boys in the picture frame
were cousins who had the same name.
They lived on the same avenue,
in homes with a similar view.
Their backyards had a water bowl
which attracted birds like the oriole.
Each month they met for a lunch at noon--
being cousins made them feel over the moon.
Well, we did it! All three of us managed to produce verses of some sort containing all four Jumble words plus the solution.
ReplyDeleteOl' Man Keith, I liked your haiku, many thanks. Were you really in Baltimore and built something on Moore avenue? I had to look up 'cote', and learned it would be a shelter for mammals or maybe pigeons. But I gather the orioles didn't like it?
CanadianEh!, did your new home owner really get to name her 'avenue'? That would be exciting wouldn't it? And it would be easy for folks to find your home if they just had to look for a street with your name on it. But I suppose it wouldn't matter to the orioles--they'd probably come as long as there were plants and trees and seeds in the back yard.

How fine, Misty for cousins to have such a bond as that shared by those in your โRelatives.โ IRL, they remind me of my niece and nephew and their families. They live close to one another in NoCal, just outside of San Francisco. They are very close and surprisingly happy & healthy in their relationships.
ReplyDeleteI say surprisingly because their grandparents all split up, as did their parentโs generation (including me, in my earlier years). My sister (their mom) set a better example.
You asked if I actually built something in Baltimore. No. As you know, much poetry is fictionโlies, lies, lies.

The Oriole reference set me thinking about Baltimore.

CanadianEh! ~ I admire the compactness of your latest poem, a quality possibly enhanced by your flirtation with haiku. Your new homeowner is rightly happy to have found a place in this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteOn first reading, I assumed the โmonth for oriolesโ referred to a time when the famous โboidsโ would migrate south (or return?), but a brief Google of the Sports & Business News shows that the Orioles baseball team management have not renewed their lease on their Camden Yards stadium.
They signed their first agreement 30 years agoโand it apparently expires next month!
So, which is it? Is your new homeowner an ornithologist, maybe a twitcher?
Or will they be moving again if the Orioles change their venueโperhaps to Cranberry PA or, worse, to somewhere along the Beltway Battle!

Misty- yes we all did it today. I enjoyed your poem with those close-knit cousins. Now a days, it is not common for cousins to live that close together, and we miss out on some of those closer family connections.

OMK- what a keen eye that you noticed that I flirted with a haiku. My first two lines came easily and used three of the words, but didnโt meet the haiku count. Since I was pressed for time, I did not pursue the haiku, but went with an ordinary poem. The oriole reference is to the birds. Now if it had been Blue Jays, I might have gone with the baseball theme.
It's almost 11pm and I have to go to bed. So it breaks my heart not to respond to all of your delightful, interesting, enjoyable, caring and more, comments, Ol'Man Keith and CanadianEh!, which make this blog a total pleasure. All I can so is end with just giving you both my warmest and most heartfelt thanks for your wonderful daily contributions, and for making this blog such a pleasure for all three of us.
