|| || brash, taboo, scarce, facade, across the board.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

  1. Thought I'd give the jumble a try before I went to bed and come back for the poem in the morning.

So I had trouble with the third clue and went for the solution without it. Once I saw what the last word in the solution could be, it all fell into place and so did the third clue. They always seem so obvious after you know them, don't they!

Yes, OMK, I looked for it.

  2. Hector didn't believe in ghosts, not a bit!
So the invite to a haunted house was a hit.
Millie, however, behind her brash facade
Was quivering with fear, scarcely awed.

The house, when they arrived, looked creepy.
Old and decrepit, and appropriately creaky.
Every step to the door had its own squeaking sound,
As if warning all ghosts a taboo-breaker was around.

Hector stopped at the threshold, looked at the stair.
(I should mention he was a fan of Fred Astaire.)
He began dancing up and down it, playing music of sorts,
Across the step boards, like the piano at [F.A.O.] Schwarz!

(Sometime in the future, I may get them inside.)

  3. A lovely piano indeed, a treat for happy feet.
And maybe even good practice for surfboard grip & dexterity...

  4. Totally delightful poem, Owen, many thanks! Happily, I got all four words without any problems but had to work a bit to get the solution. Tried to think of words that belong to surfing and Voila, I got the last word. The first two fell right into place after that, making this a fun Jumble morning.

  5. Read and reread the poem, and every time I like it more. Waiting anxiously to find out what happens if they get inside.

  6. I hurriedly solved the J this morning. FACADE gave me a little trouble. AFACED just didn't seem right.

    Surfs up, gotta go
