My Muses are off today, so here's a l'ick of cryptic-ish clues for today's words, in order even! They probably won't help a bit for figuring out the words, but should make confirming them obvious.
What do you get when you add a watt to heat? No uncle will ever with the N.L. compete. Would a suffragette prefer a feminine ale? Would her hair get a perm, lest it fail? Should you use a towline to keep you on your feet?
Cryptic-ish, breaking up-ish, joining up-ish, in general messing around with-ish. The many things you do with words!
Actually I did go to your limerick for help with one of the clues and found it. The solution gave me just a little trouble because I was stubbornly resisting the pun in favor of the actual phrase. But only for a moment or two.
I hope you're well, Owen, and simply not feeling up to telling a story today.
I knocked off two fives but didn't see the others. I did the xword(aaarrgghhhh!!!) and got it all after a few minutes .
I'll try to think of some doggerel . I've lost that muse. I need caffeine+ .
I used to water ski . My buddy loved to"whip" me. He got me up to about 60 knots once, and I took a spectacular whipe-out . Bounced three times he said . The first knocked me out for a few seconds.
Glad to see you here, Owen. I worried when you didn't post on the Crossword puzzle. I got the first three Jumble items right away but had to work on the fourth one until it suddenly became clear. I already had the first two words of the solution, and after I got the fourth item, the remaining word fell into line. So, a fun morning Jumble, and especially nice to see a female skier giving the orders this morning.
Feeling reasonably well, but innards are still a bit upset, so I've been spending a lot of time in the throne room, which is messing with my sleep schedule, which in turn is messing with my poesy.

For those 50s-60s mega chauvinists water skiing was an eye opener. It takes a lot of arm strength to water ski.
