|| || eagle, might, outfit, finish, get (the) hang of it.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Today we're trying Frisbee golf. It's like, but not the same.
First we approach to pro shop, to get outfitted for our game.
To start, one disc is all we need, each player has his own.
But like ball golfers with their clubs, a set may well be thrown.

A driver is the powerful one, thrown might and main.
Starting from the tee, it travels farthest down the lane.
A mid-range disc then is sent from where the driver settled.
In hopes an eagle may reward a very good throw's mettle.

The finish is the putting, get to a pole with chains hung off it.
They'll stop the disc that hits them, and in the basket drop it.
Nine holes or twice that is a round, like their elder brother.
Disc golf can be easy fun for folks who like their druthers!

  2. Dang! Just remember the rule--that if a key word is obviously missing from the cartoon's caption, it's bound to be in the solution. This one just rang in my mind's ear, gang!

  3. I never heard of frisbee golf and I wasn't sure when I read your entertaining poem that it was a real thing. So I had to Google it, Owen, and by golly, it is. Still not sure what a course would look like, but that's ok; I'm never going to play it anyway!

The jumble was an easy New Year's Day gift. The clue words and the solution popped right out at first glance. I really do not like that wallpaper, though, lol.

    1. But that paper is very close to one my first wife used on our living room ceiling, Sandy!
      Everyone said it was gorgeous.

  4. I ran through the J's, hastily inking LEGAL* for #1 and finishing in 50 seconds. Then I jotted down the letters, noticed the two G's and I had it. But....

I was missing an A???? Oh I got it #1 is ALGAE

    Then I read Owen's A+ poem. Where's the Flora?

The wallpaper reminds me of Sheldon's halloween costume

    * I was lucky my bad guess had the G circled

    1. Read the last line of the second stanza, Wilbur.

  5. Like Wilbur, I too had LEGAL for the first item. But the solution jumped out so quickly, I knew that had to be wrong, so went back and fixed it. Woohoo--a great puzzle and a great Jumble on New Year's day morning--a year's start doesn't get any better than this. And I love seeing a colorful cartoon when I come to this Jumble blog. Have a great day, everybody!

  6. Yep. That line told me that ALGAE too was wrong .Funny how I don't notice fe. that the letters don't fit . But I was too hasty.

Misty, I'm glad you're getting the newspaper and I'm sure Dusty is doubly so.
