The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

The twenty-seventh-grandson of Genghis, Stanly Khan,
Had flown to Mongolia to evaluate a plan.
A tower was proposed, Stan had been invited
To invest, and to visit where it would be sited.

Towers were a hobby, Stan had already several.
But he also came to learn of his ancestor general.
Was he in truth as evil as some historians claim,
If not, could Stan help to redeem his good name?

This hotel could play a part, tho there was no need.
In the Mongolian land, he was honored for his deed.
This project would work, it didn't need a risky bettor.
It would mutate the city, and make Ulan Bator better!

The clues were easy, though the fourth took a few more seconds than the others. The solution surprised me, because I always look for a pun, and this solution just involved simple word play. Enjoyed it.

The poem's theme really surprised me. Genghis Khan, of all people, though maybe his 27th grandson was the real focus. I loved the way the word play at the end was related to the jumble.

(So I went off on a tangent -- would only 27 generations be logical for about 950 years? Well, something approaching 35 seems more likely but 27 is quite possible. Told you I have a nitpicky mind.)

Fun Jumble this morning, and I very much liked your poem, Owen--especially the name of Stanley Kahn. I had gotten all the four Jumble words and it was nice to confirm them. And I had gotten one word of the solution but wasn't quite sure about the second. But your poem confirmed it nicely and so I'm happy and satisfied.

Still not feeling at all well, and never really got a start on the crossword puzzle. Not sure how the day will go but will keep my fingers crossed.

Glad to see you at the Jumble, Misty. Hope you feel better soon.

I tried to do this on the phone but I only had five minutes. When I returned after lunch it fell quickly.

And the Riddle--Solution popped once I grok'ed the O.

I think Kublai was Genghis' nephew. The horde pulled back from Europe when Genghis died. Fortuitous. Also, the Mongols suffered a big defeat at the hands of the Marmelukes. 1250?

HEADS-UP: I just worked the J4 for June 30, and it had the right cartoon, but the words and solution were from the June 23 puzzle! If your solution is 5,3 (OOOOO OOO), you have the misprint puzzle. The proper solution to the riddle is probably 4,6 (OOOO OOOOOO).
