|Smiley face| _floss, crazy, intake, octane, stay clear of it.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

  1. I like the concept. But although the idiomatic phrase is perfectly reasonable, the "pun" aspect seems awkward or even senseless. Again, just reusing a word doesn't make a good pun. Only IMHO.

  2. Clearly Saying It (in test time)”

Our driver dons his floss-lined fire khaki,
rolls his GT to the pump,
& calls on a crazy intake of PSC
    for a hi-octane bump.

Down to the track he goes, nods to the gun,
takes off with the “bang” for his first test run.

He blows me away for, even though a trial,
he clears nine-and-a-half seconds on a curvy half-mile.

  3. "Hard Work"

Daisy was neither crazy nor lazy
and so did her best to floss and gloss
her records, to prevent her boss
    from assuming any mistake
    in her impressive octane intake
of new clients and income gain.
It worked, and her boss stayed clear,
letting her rear a new career.

  4. Thanks FLN, Wilbur, for your later "Chet" posting yesterday. Good to see the update.

Sandy ~ I am with you. I always want to see a max of cleverness, and this doesn't cut it. But I respect the effort.
These guys have a very tough job, esp. when we consider all the years they have been at it--and trying not to repeat themselves!

Misty ~ Enjoyed your Daisy, esp. when you wrapped the corner with "...and gloss/her records..."
You know I get a kick outta that kind of jolt.
Did you intend the (nearly) naughty pun in your last line?

Today's the day for Maggie's surgery.
Here is the link to my wife's report on her: Maggie News.

  5. Later.
Maggie update ~ Her surgery is postponed because the doc found indications on her ultra-sound that her liver is affected; It is either regenerating from an unknown injury or there are possible indications of cancer.
He is going to confer with an oncologist to be sure it is not cancer before subjecting Maggie to surgery. If she is OK, they will do the operation tomorrow.
I will share more news as we hear it.

  6. OMK, I'm sure the suspense is very difficult for your wife and you. We will hope for the best. Maggie is probably the only one who isn't in suspense, but she must dislike having to see the vet repeatedly. Fingers still crossed

  7. Poor Maggie. This is not a happy time for her, sadly, Ol' Man Keith. Hope something can be found to help her get better.

Enjoyed your wild driver's trial run. Hope he wins the race.

No, no naughty last line. On days with weird incompatible Jumble words like this I just do what I can, hoping the result will not be too stupid or offensive.

  8. Fln, Sandy I wasn't sure I could answer you with the availabile J's but ...

"What do you mean by a Higher Power", Chet was asked
"It's different for all of us, for the 12 Steps seem such a difficult task
But for those of us crazies, the flotsam and jetsom in a crazy sea
Employing the octane that the grace of God provides can truly

Make the difference. Each one's take of the concept is different.
Some stay clear of it altogether whereas others are hell-bent
To go religious to the max.
    [The best advice?]
An open mind is all we ask."

  9. Enjoyed your hot-rodder OMK but he'd better stY away from Dead Man's Curve".

Misty your wise heroine knows that it's results that count in the business world.

  10. Liked the say you worked the J solution--"stay clear of it"--into your poem today, along with the "crazy" "octane". Lots of fun--many thanks, Wilbur.

  11. So, Wilbur, so some people do "stay clear of it altogether"? I am relieved to read that, because it means that AA is open to all, including those who do not acknowlwdge a higher power.

  12. "An open mind," Wilbur?
I've known for long that AA does not require belief but sorta leans into it via the "higher power" phrase.
I respect their tolerance of all faiths and of agnosticism. My guess is that avowed atheists can fudge it too, but the program would rather not have to bother with a direct challenge.

  13. Sandy, it or not there are Atheist mtgs(known as Free Thinkers Groups). That's fine with me in fact I'm sensitive to that mindset.

I even rewrote the Lord's Prayer eliminating the religious and leaving the Principles.

And… I knew one guy who opined that anyone truly and daily doing 11 Step meditation will naturally become a Buddhist.

As Chet said, open-minded awareness is the key
