The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

  1. FLN, Wilbur ~ I took a stab at your Wordle 362.

    ——§——

Haiku Background: When the winery went on sale, I may have lost, but earned a chuckle in the end.
When the tannins are over-abundant in red wine vats, the enclosed wine may foam up—seemingly out of control—and have an astringent bitter taste. (Two poems below:)

    My Way Was Right

    When the auctioneer
took bids, I won a guerdon—
    ‘tho I lost to Jim…

    who threw & outbid
    me. Now the winery’s gone
    all foamy on him.

  3. Keith or whoever (CEh!? Some lurker?), first step is to get the new day's Jumble. I get it from the Chicago Trib, where it comes at 6pm (Mountain time; your time will be an hour off), but I chop that up to get the blog page. To save you that effort, at or after 11pm go to https://www.arkansasonline.com/puzzles/jumblenh/ . Copy the Jumble image from there. Just the Jumble image, not the whole page.

I assume you've found the dashboard, and the page that lists all posts. The bottom-right corner will have a large orange disk with a + sign in the middle. That's what you need to start a new day. Press that and the edit page will come up. you can leave the title blank. In the edit section will be the welcome message that I wrote. At the start of that message is || . Put your cursor between those lines, and press [ctrl] [H]. Press the save icon at the top-right, and you're done!

Once you get that down, two additional steps are to adjust the size of the image to a width of 616-620 pixels. The column is 620 pixels wide but I like to give it some extra slack.

The other thing is to set the publishing time (assuming you're posting before midnight, otherwise just leave it alone). Before you save, press the cog-wheel icon on the right edge. That will drop down a menu covering the right side of the page. About a page down on that menu will be the publishing time. Click that and change the time to 12 am, and for the puzzle's date .

  4. "Bubbly Brew"

The head of the winery tried to show me
how all of our drinks became foamy.
Their lightness gave me a clue
that bubbles in the vat they threw.
And so, for an extra quid,
    the competition they outbid.
The process was not quite the right of way,
but it gave the winery a successful day.

  5. Ut oh, Owen. Please check your email.

Misty ~ Enjoyed seeing your rhymes and J-word.
But couldn't quite follow whether "foamy" was a good thing or not--or who was "they" and who the "competition" being charged the "extra quid."
Sorry. I just got a little lost.

  7. Enjoyed your haikus, OMK, though I have no idea what a "guerdon" is.

As for the winery, I suspect someone is trying to figure out how to make champagne, and it's probably working, though not everyone is sure this is a great idea. It also may have cost something to secure a way of inserting bubbles into liquid.

Now I feel like getting a drink, but I guess I'd best stick to coffee since it's not yet 11 AM.

  8. No, I wouldn't think it "a great idea," Misty, to try making champagne by throwing bubbles in after the fact.
I'll vote for the competition if they get their wine to sparkle... the old-fashioned way!

A "guerdon" is simply a reward. The original word was a "chuckle," but I went for the rhyme.

Is the missing letter in your next-to-last Wordle an "F"?
