[Chet begs a quick farewell to get his head together]

"Lois", said Chet, "This dressy wedding idea has left this old brain unfastened
I must make myself elusive and find a meeting and get myself chastened "
My heart is going thump, thump, thump and I feel like a dunce"
"I understand , my love , go like you're skiing downhill, every second counts"

At the meeting the flavor of the day was surrender one's will, Step Three.
Then Chet shared: "I'd planned a frugal wedding, My theory
was 'Keep it simple, Easy does it'. I'd marked an early date.
Change has left this Alcoholic, reeling. Am I just a victim of fate?"

  2. Help us elude the ghosts and ghoolies,
Things that can not stand daylight!
Protect us from the boolies and boogies,
And things that go thump in the night!

Help us forgive transgressors against us,
And not trespass when we're out of sight!
Don't let us be proud of our hubris,
And strive to always do and act right!

Help us to be frugal to the poor in our giving,
So we don't add ourselves to the blight!
Deliver us from scar marks from our skiing.
Well that's it Lord. You have a good night!

  3. FLN, CEh! ~ A fine creative response to Owen’s challenge!
I assume you included all your (previously private) wrong Wordle words in your late poetic splurge.
Thank you for sharing it with us!

Wilbur ~ It is ironic, isn’t it?—that AA’s Step Three, “Surrender your Will,” could lead Chet to indulge in a far more elaborate wedding than the frugal one he’d planned?
One would suppose that giving up one’s will might lead in a self-denying direction.
    Ah, well…

Bring on this ceremony, reception and all. And if we can’t see an actual video, maybe you’ll be so good as to describe the best visuals.

    By skiing, he left
    his mark, thumping frugal troops,
    eluding spendthrifts.

  4. What a delightful poem from Owen this morning!
A prayer for protection through the night, despite one’s follies & missteps.
The charm of the piece is cinched by the chummy fashion with which it treats our Lord.

  5. OMK, Chet intrinsically knows he has to keep Lois happy. It's his emotions he needs help with the higher power on.

I imagine it'll be a great wedding. Btw, Lois, being in tgevprogram is encouraging Chet to get to a mtg.

I just happened to turn on "Mom" last night. Mtgs are their crisis bunkers

  6. "Worthy Work"

Mark worked as a cop in the dark
with a dog that did loudly bark.
    Few criminals did him elude
which put him in a good mood.
When one ran and over a bridge did jump,
Mark caught him just as he came down with a thump.

Mark was frugal, but quite deft
and so was never left bereft.
In the winter he went skiing for fun,
    well-deserved after his productive run.

  7. Yes OMK, you are correct re my late entry last night.
I echo your praise re Owen’s poem.

WC- poor Chet! We eagerly await his fate.

Wordle is up to its usual tricks again (as per WC).
It took me a while to clue in.

  8. Misty ~ What went wrong? I thought my hint was a complete giveaway.

Your Mark likely deserved his “fun” ski time, being so “productive” and all.
I lived for four years in fabulous snow country but never learned to ski. When I first moved there, they told me in the winter I could either ski or drink by the fireside.
    I leave you with that…

  9. Frugality may be a virtue
    But in trying to elude
    Paying full price
    For his skiing vacation,
    Mr. Scrooge rented sub-standard equipment.
He went thump on a mogul and certainly left his mark.

    Now his motto is
“You get what you pay for”!

  10. Now that I have posted my own offering, I can go back and read the others.
Misty- Mark had better luck on the ski hill than my Mr Scrooge.

OMK- I loved your border patrol - capitalist in the Swiss Alps!

  11. Thanks, CEh! ~
and I enjoyed your morality tale of Mr. Scrooge & his unplanned visit to the moguls.
